Two Cuba Chess Players in World Elite

Havana, Apr 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuban chess grandmasters (GM) Lazaro Bruzon and Leinier Dominguez are among the first 60 players in the ranking of the International Chess Federation, the organization´s website shows.

Bruzon possesses a 2,652 ELO to rank 55th in the world list, while Dominguez accumulates a 2,647 ELO to be 59th. Only two other chess players from the Americas are on top of them: US GM Gata Gamsky and Hikaru Nakamura, who lead the region with the 32nd and 42nd positions, respectively.

For the first time in years, Russian Gary Kasparov is not leading the international ranking, as he has not played for more than a year given his official retirement.

Bulgarian World champ Vesselin Topalov is first with a 2,804 ELO, ahead of Indian Vishwanathan Anand (2,803) and Russian Vladimir Kramnink (2,729).

The other two Latin American players among the world´s best 100 are Peruvian Julio Granda (2,631) and Brazilian Geovani Vescovi (2,622).

Comment: I have a long way to go. My ELO is only 1400, and every time I go above that line, someone knocks me down below it.
