Catholic Church in Cuba calls for prayers for the health of Fidel Castro

The Conference of Cuban Catholic Bishops (COCC in Spanish) called this Friday for its parishioners to pray for the recuperation of president Fidel Castro, who announced last Monday that he underwent a surgical operation. In a letter to all the Catholic faithful of the country, the COCC asked all communities "to offer prayers for God to accompany president Fidel Castro during his illness and to enlighten those who have received the provisional reponsibilities of the Government."

The request was published in Spanish in the first page of Granma International.
