Cuba to Host Baseball Council

Havana, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) Havana will be the host of the presidential council of the International Amateur Baseball Federation on August 24.

The Council will decide the date for the next Executive Committee meeting, to define when and where the IBAF Extraordinary Congress will choose its new president.

The recent death of Italian Aldo Notari made such a decision necessary, and first Vice President Tom C. H. Peng Peng (Chinese Taipei), president of the Baseball Association of his country and vice president of the Asian Baseball Association, now presides over the IBAF.

The meeting will precede the August 25 opening of the Pre-Olympic tournament, which takes place until September 6 in the Latin American, Santiago Changa Mederos and Nelson Fernandez Stadiums.

Teams from 12 countries will seek the two entries for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Mexico has just announced its presence to replace Aruba, which declined.

Mexico will be in Group B together with Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico, US and Venezuela, while Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and Cuba will be in Group A.
