Vanessa Redgrave Calls for Closure of US Horror Camp in Guantanamo

Granma

BERLIN.— Vanessa Redgrave, actress and human rights activist, spoke out Thursday in Bochum, Germany for the immediate closing of the US internment camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, reported EFE.

Redgrave is in Bochum for the Ruhr Triennale Arts Festival. On Sunday, she will participate in Project Guantanamo, a campaign by artists, actors, scientists and human rights activists that denounces the legal limbo suffered by prisoners at the US Naval Base on occupied Cuban territory.

"A policy that relies on torture and denies legal rights, makes me feel ashamed, sad and infuriated and this is exactly what the governments of the US and United Kingdom are doing," said the 69-year-old actress, a 1977 Oscar winner for her lead role in the film Julia.
