HAVANA, Cuba (ACN): Cuba's National Civil Defense Council issued a press release lifting the hurricane warning for the western province of Pinar del Rio and the Isle of Youth.
According to the latest report from the Weather Forecasting Institute, Hurricane Dean will not directly affect the island, therefore the country has returned to normal, said the notice.
Although the National Civil Defence Council will carry on monitoring weather conditions, as some flooding may occur on the southern coast of the island, the hurricane is expected to continue moving towards the Western Caribbean.
The eastern Cuban city of Santiago headed into recovery phase early Monday as Hurricane Dean continues its way. Thousands of people were sent home from shelters after the hurricane alarm was lifted for the eastern province.
Meanwhile, local authorities are at work assessing damage to tourist centers and all facilities located in coastal areas that may have been affected by flooding, even though the area was not directly hit by the hurricane, according to a report by local civil defence officials.
