Caracas, Oct 14 (ABN).- The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, visited the Camilo Cienfuegos refinery, in Cuba, in order to pre-inaugurate and inspect the complex technological adaptation project.

After the inspection, Venezuelan President greeted hundreds of Cubans that went to Cienfuegos to welcome Chávez.

Camilo Cienfuegos refinery will be able to process 69 thousand barrels a day thanks to the adaptation.

Cienfuegos oil refinery is one of the main projects of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA- Spanish acronym).

In a telephonic conversation between the Head of State of Cuba, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chávez, during his weekly program, Aló Presidente, which was broadcasted from Santa Clara, Cuba, Chávez reiterated the construction in a near future of a petrochemical center around Cienfuegos.

“We are very excited with this project, one of the main ALBA’s projects”, said Chávez o Castro.

Chávez explained that besides this refinery, which is a Venezuelan-Cuban mixed company that will start to process 69 thousand oil barrels a day by the end of this year, the program includes a fertilizer plant and a re-gasification one.

Cienfuegos refinery re-opening was announced to take place next December.

“We are going to pre-inaugurate it today”, Chávez added, regarding his visit to the plant that was built in 1990 with former Soviet Union’s technology.
