Song: "Changui Para La Pena"
Pedro Luis Ferrer is certainly one of the most original singer songwriters to have emerged form Cuba in years. He is a blithe fuser of son, changüi, and trova-- but while he is sensible to the Spanish and African contributions in Cuban music, he goes further - all the way to the Moorish influence as well. It all combines to form something new, lyrical and highly listenable. The sound is further unified by Ferrer's daughter Lena whose vocal phrasing and timbre are a perfect match to her father's. In this video, the players seem to have been caught at an informal moment, and deliver the song in a modest, almost offhand manner.
