The path to victory is never an easy one

When Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, he did not succeed. But deep down the youngster new that the Cuban people wanted change from the peculiar “democracy” imposed upon the island by Yankee imperialism's puppet General Fulgencio Batista. The rest is history.

Close to fifty years later, those same imperialists are still trying to roll back the clock of time and of progress. They continue trying to subvert the path freely chosen by the Cuban people: Socialism. The people in the island know very well how Capitalism operates. Everyone is for himself. Social responsibilities are dirty words. Screw your neighbors and friends to make a fast buck. Don’t have any money to pay rent? Go sleep on the sidewalk!

Today in Cuba you never see a mendicant child begging for money on the streets. On my first visit ever to Tijuana, Mexico I was constantly accosted by children begging for pennies. You could see the suffering in their young mother’s faces, who always trailed them. Despair and hopelessness was their signature.

The survival of the wealthiest. That sorry crowd goes to church every Sunday to thank “their lord” for the wealth they have acquired. What a bunch of hypocrites. Sepulcros blanqueados, Jesus called them.

Cubans inside the island are not dumb. The dumb ones and the criminals too get in a raft and head north seeking the gold cobblestones of a sick consumerist society, where a gallon of gasoline costs more than a gallon of milk. Corn, wheat and rice are increasing in price. We’ve got to feed the cars with biofuels say the capitalists.

Keep on going Cuba! Do not stray from the chosen path. It is your island. Do not let a bunch of Yankees in Washington, D.C. or the corrupt gusanos of Miami tell you what you have to do. Tinker with your system to make it better. The progressive world applauds you as it says: “There goes Cuba. It has shown the planet that A BETTER WORLD IS POSSIBLE!”
