Santiago de Cuba, January 1, 2009
“Cuba’s victory is double meritorious, because it has been reached despite the sick and vengeful hate of a mighty neighbor”
“They have promoted and supported sabotage and banditry; the invasion at Playa Girón, the blockade and the other economic, political and diplomatic measures; the permanent campaign of lies designed to denigrate the Revolution and its leaders; the October Crisis, the kidnappings and attacks to civilian ships and airliners; State terrorism with its terrible balance of 3,478 deaths and 2,099 disabled; the planned assassination attempts against Fidel and other leaders; the murders of workers, peasants, fishermen, students, diplomats and Cuban combatants. These and many other crimes are witnesses to their crooked desire to extinguish, at any price, the light of justice and decorum which signifies the dawn of the First of January.”
“One after another, the North American administrations have not ceased trying their intent at regime change in Cuba, employing one or a different way, with more or less aggression”
“To resist has been the order of the day and it has been the key to every one of our victories, during half a century of uninterrupted struggles, in which we have started invariably by offering our own bodies, without failing to recognize the ample and decisive solidarity which we have received.”
“For many years, we Cuban revolutionaries follow the maxim of José Martí: ‘Liberty is very expensive, and you have to resign yourself to living without it, or to decide to buy it at its own price.’”
