The criollos came back in a big way on the top of the fifth: Martin, hit. Oliveras, hit, Enriquez, free pass. Bases loaded. Frederich “Dependable” Cepeda, double, three RBI's; Cuba 5, Mexico 2.

What appeared to be a muscle cramp forced Vera to leave the game. Pedro Luis Lazo came on relief and retired the last batter on the bottom of the fifth.

On the top of the seventh, Cepeda and Gourriel had consecutive hits. Cespedes connected a triple; two RBI's. Cuba 7, Mexico 2.

Pedro Luis Lazo showed that he had his “good stuff” again. He struck out six in four and one third innings and gave no free passes.

Jorge Cantu hit a home run for Mexico on the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-3. Lazo allowed another homer on the ninth. Cuba 7, Mexico 4.
