Havana. March 18, 2009

THE Cuban baseball team taking part in the 2nd World Classic faces Japan again tonight, in a decisive game that will see the winner moving on to the semi-finals and the elimination of the losing team. The match begins at 11 p.m. (Cuban time) at the Petco Park stadium in San Diego, California.

The Japanese team lost 4-1 against the South Koreans, allowing the Olympic champions to proceed to the next round.

This is the third time that Cuba and Japan have faced each other in the World Classics. The two previous games have both been won by the Asian team and tonight’s game will see one of the two contenders deprived of a place in the final.

Cuba completed the first round undefeated. Once the players arrived in San Diego, they lost 6-0 against Japan but went on to beat Mexico (7-4).
