Fidel Castro: Cuba will not return to the OAS

In a Reflection of Comrade Fidel, written yesterday and published today in Cuba's daily Granma, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba declared that Cuba will not return to be a member of the Organization of American States.

Declared Fidel: "Cuba respects the criteria of the governments of our brothers in Latin America and the Caribbean who think differently, but we do not wish to be a part of that institution."

The former Cuban president chided the United States for having started the dirty war against Nicaragua and having invaded the Dominican Republic (Lyndon B. Johnson) Grenada (Ronald Reagan) and Panama (George H.W. Bush).

In my opinion, what the people of this hemisphere need to do is expel the government of the United States from the OAS, and start from scratch with a new organization which will defend the interests of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is the American imperialists which have consistently violated the independence and national sovereignty of the countries of the western hemisphere.
