20th Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba will take place in July

SOLIDARITY WITH CUBA FOREVER!

Like every year for the past twenty years, the courageous Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan will start their annual trip to Cuba. The genocidal Yankee imperialist embargo against Cuba prevents Americans from sending any article to the Caribbean island.

Every year the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization / Pastors for Peace defies the orders of the American empire, which requires them to obtain a U.S. government license to transport items to Cuba. They defy and break that law every year as an act of civil disobedience and to express their solidarity with the Cuban people. They are harassed every year by U.S. Customs when they cross into Mexico.

The caravan stops at many cities and states in both Canada and the United States. Hundreds of Americans add their donations of goods and money to the Solidarity With Cuba Caravan.

The IFCO/PFP website maintains a list of the cities where the caravan will stop. You will find on the top right page: 1) Caravan Info and Docs. 2) Find events in your state. 3) Map of Route. 4) Caravan Blog.

This year's Caravan will take place from July 3rd to August 3rd.

If you want to express your solidarity with Cuba, but are not able to participate in the Caravan, you can go to Let Cuba Live! website and purchase one of their colorful blue Let Cuba Live Bumper Stickers.
They are only $3.00. I have one in my car, and quite a lot of people honk at me and give me the thumbs up sign.

New flights begin today from Los Angeles to Cuba

L.A. Now

7:31 AM | June 30, 2009

Angelenos with family in Cuba will have another option for travel today, when a Long Beach-based company kicks off nonstop flights from LAX to Havana.

The five-hour flight, which will run every Tuesday and can accommodate 150 people, takes off from L.A. at 11 a.m and is the only Cuban flight for Cuba Travel since July 2004, when the Bush administration tightened rules governing travel to Cuba, according to the company.

Since 1962, travel from the U.S. to Cuba has been banned, but Cuban Americans have been allowed to visit family under various policies. Obama repealed the 2004 travel restrictions in April. According to Cuba Travel, 1.5 million Cubans live in the United States. About 55,000 reside in Los Angeles County.

The fascists own Honduras right now

Fascists elements in Miami, Florida are celebrating the coup d'etat in Honduras by School of the Americas graduate, General Romeo Vazquez. He was trained in Fort Benning, Georgia. We now know what the Yankees taught him. Not a single U.S. news media organization has reported that he received his "education" in the school that has been dubbed the School of Assassins or the School for Dictators.

The United States is right now the only Western Hemisphere government that continues to keep his ambassador in Tegucigalpa, and even though U.S. law prohibits the transfer of economic aid to governments that come to power via a coup d'etat, the government of Barack Obama has not cut off economic or military aid to Honduras.

The United States has had a very long history of supporting coup d'etats in Latin America. It is much easier for American corporations to exploit the natives when you have a dictator in power.

Let us hope that the constitutional president of Honduras, José Manuel Zelaya Rosales, can return on Thursday to reclaim his office. Latin America may have to take military action to force his return.

Raul Castro: The fascist coup d'etat against President Zelaya is an affront againt all the people

Muchas gracias.

Will President Zelaya return to Honduras this week?

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has vowed to return to the country this week to reclaim office after meeting US President Barack Obama.

As angry supporters clashed with riot police near the presidential palace in the capital, Tegucigalpa, Mr Zelaya was busy winning international support for his return.

He told a meeting of regional leaders in the Nicaraguan capital Managua that he planned to travel to Washington, where US President Barack Obama has denounced the coup as illegal, and to New York to speak before the United Nations General Assembly.

He added: "I go to Tegucigalpa on Thursday".

Depending on whether he is allowed to enter the country, his planned return to Honduras sets up a potentially explosive showdown with the newly installed administration of the congressional leader Roberto Micheletti. He assumed the leadership following a military coup at the weekend after Mr Zelaya stated that he would call a referendum over a change to the constitution that would allow him to seek another term in office.

Mr Zelaya also accepted the offer of Jose Miguel Insulza, the head of the Organization of American States, to accompany him back to Honduras, along with leaders of other friendly countries who may wish to travel with him.

President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who has threatened the new regime with a military intervention, urged Mr Zelaya to meet with Obama, saying the US president's attention to the matter could "deliver a major blow" to those who ousted him.

In Tegucigalpa meanwhile, hundreds of angry Zelaya supporters defied a curfew on Monday night, erecting barricades near the presidential palace.

They threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and used pipes and metal bars against shield-bearing riot police. The security forces responded with tear gas and gunfire, witnesses said.

JG: What is needed is bold, courageous and decisive actions, something that Barack Obama unfortunately is not able to do, because he represents the status quo and will defend the elites in Honduras.

A 72 hour ultimatum needs to be sent to the illegal regime in Tegucigalpa which says: you will face military actions by Latin American nations if Present Zelaya is not restored as the only constitutional and legal authority in the Central America nation.

Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Cuba must be ready to send their armies to restore Manuel Zelaya to his office. General Romeo Vazquez and Roberto Michelletti must be immediately arrested and put on trial for violating Honduras constitution.

Speeches will not restore Zelaya to power.

Obama and Clinton continue to dance the 'coup cha-cha-cha'

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue to dance the Coup Cha-Cha-Cha.

Obama: "We believe that the coup was not legal and that President Zelaya remains the president of Honduras, the democratically elected president there." [JG: Zelaya is just taking a vacation in Costa Rica.]

Notice that he does not say that he condemns and repudiates the army coup d'etat.

Clinton: Despite Obama's comments, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the administration was not formally designating the ouster as a military coup for now, a step that would force a cut-off of most U.S. aid to Honduras.

Under U.S. law, no aid -- other than for the promotion of democracy -- may be provided to a country whose elected head of government has been toppled in a military coup.

"We do think that this has evolved into a coup," Clinton told reporters, adding the administration was withholding that determination for now.

Obama and Clinton do not want to withhold aid from their new "democratic friend" in Honduras.

They continue to support the coup "under the table." With Roberto Michelletti in the Honduras presidential palace, Uncle Sam has assured himself of having acquired a servile ass kisser.

The Wobblies, true defenders of the interests of the working class

The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW or the Wobblies) is an international union currently headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. At its peak in 1923 the organization claimed some 100,000 members in good standing, and could marshal the support of perhaps 300,000 workers. Its membership declined dramatically after a 1924 split brought on by internal conflict. Today it is actively organizing and numbers about 2,000 members worldwide, of whom fewer than half (approximately 900) are in good standing (that is, have paid their dues for the prior two months). IWW membership does not require that one work in a represented workplace, nor does it exclude membership in another labor union.

The IWW contends that all workers should be united as a class and that the wage system should be abolished. They may be best known for the Wobbly Shop model of workplace democracy, in which workers elect recallable delegates, and other norms of grassroots democracy (self-management) are implemented.

The IWW's goal is to promote worker solidarity in the revolutionary struggle to overthrow the capitalist employing class; its motto is "an injury to one is an injury to all," which improved upon the 19th century Knights of Labor's creed, "an injury to one is the concern of all." In particular, the IWW is organized because of the belief among many unionists, socialists, anarchists and radicals that the AFL not only has failed to effectively organize the U.S. working class, as only about 5% of all workers belonged to unions in 1905, but also was organizing according to narrow craft principles which divided groups of workers. The Wobblies believe that all workers should organize as a class, a philosophy which is still reflected in the Preamble to the current IWW Constitution:

The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life. Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organize as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the Earth. ... Instead of the conservative motto, 'A fair day's wage for a fair day's work', we must inscribe on our banner the revolutionary watchword, 'Abolition of the wage system.' It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism.

Mounting Rights Violations Fan the Flames of Escalating Public Outcry

June 1, 2009

Minneapolis, MN – The Starbucks Coffee Co. settled a complaint today from the National Labor Relations Board over charges of violating workers’ rights --- the sixth such settlement in three years for the ailing coffee giant. The case comes as a new website (StopStarbucks.com) and viral video calling on CEO Howard Schultz to respect workers’ right to join a labor union spread like wildfire across the Internet. The new media initiative, from Robert Greenwald’s “Brave New Films”, has already been viewed over 60,000 times with a related petition garnering almost 15,000 signatures.

“This settlement proves that Starbucks executives are not above the law and cannot block hard working baristas from making positive change,” said Angel Gardner, a barista and member of the Starbucks Workers Union in the Twin Cities. “How can Starbucks claim that it maintains a positive work environment when one labor case after another exposes its lack of respect for employees?”

Pursuant to the settlement which stems from charges filed by the IWW Starbucks Workers Union, the corporation must cease engaging in a slew of illegal measures including threatening to call security to interfere with protected activity, prohibiting workers from discussing the union, and expelling union sympathizers from company stores. Today’s settlement is the first since a Labor Board judge found Starbucks guilty last December of similar rights violations in the first ever trial between baristas and the coffee chain.

“Howard Schultz needs to create quality jobs for hard working families, not just line the pockets of the fat cats at corporate headquarters,” said Erik Forman, a barista and member of the Starbucks Workers Union. “Our campaign for secure work hours, fair pay, and a voice at work gains momentum every day.”

The IWW Starbucks Workers Union is an organization of over 300 current and former employees at the world's largest coffee chain united for secure work hours, a living wage, and respect on the job. The union has members throughout the United States fighting for positive change at the company and defending baristas treated unfairly by management.

The U.S. will never understand the real meaning of the word Democracy

In the United States, money rules the daily activities of the nation. Democracy means that power lies in the hands of the people. It does not exist in the U.S. because here power lies in the hands of big money interests. The two major capitalist parties are populated by corrupt politicians who spend most of their time soliciting money from big corporations, so they can continue to be perpetually reelected and to ensure that they continue to enjoy lifestyles of great opulence.

So it is no big surprise that the President of the United States, when commenting about the military coup d'etat in Honduras, all that he could come up with was that he was concerned.

Capitalism is a system that does not serve the needs of the people. Only a Socialist Democracy works to defend the interests of the people. The fruits of people's labor accrues for the benefit of the general population rather than the parasitic capitalist shareholders.

The coup in Honduras has the malodorous stink of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency surrounding it. They have always had a preferential option for the corrupt military elites of Latin America.

Brazil's Lula calls for Zelaya return in Honduras

SAO PAULO, June 29 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned on Monday the military coup in Honduras and said Brazil would only recognize a government headed by deposed leader Manuel Zelaya.

"We cannot accept or recognize any new government other than President Zelaya, because he was voted into office, complying with the rules of democracy," Lula said in his weekly radio address.
"This is the only way we can have relations with Honduras," he added. "If Honduras does not change its stance, it's going to end up totally isolated, surrounded by an enormous contingent of democratic countries."

The Honduran army ousted and exiled Zelaya on Sunday in Central America's first military coup since the Cold War, after his efforts to lift presidential term limits were rejected by the country's Congress, Supreme Court and military.

The coup was widely condemned on both sides of the Atlantic, with governments from Venezuela and the United States to Spain and France all calling for the immediate return of democracy in Honduras.

Barack Obama shows his timidity and wimpiness on Honduras coup d' etat

After the army in Honduras staged a military coup d'etat against its constitutional president, Barack Obama once again showed his timidity and wimpiness. All he could come up with with was "I am concerned about the events in Honduras."

How about being a bold and courageous leader and saying: "I reject, repudiate and condemn the army coup d'etat in Honduras and I demand that Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales be restored immediately to the office of President of Honduras."

Nah! Obama is a wimp!

Chavez: CIA Behind Coup in Honduras

Granma

CARACAS, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez requested Sunday that US President Barack Obama, to be pronounced against the military coup in Honduras, which he considered is carried out with the participation of the Central Intelligence Agency.

[JG: The translation by Prensa Latina of this first paragraph is so grammatically bad, that I am taking the liberty of providing the readers of Cuba Journal with a grammatically correct English translation. However, you do not have to agree with my translation, if you so desire.

My translation: Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez requested on Sunday that U.S. President Barack Obama should pronounce himself against the coup d'etat carried out by the military in Honduras, which Chavez considered to have been carried out with the active participation of the Central Intelligence Agency]

In statements to television channel Telesur, Chavez stated that he rejected the coup "right from its bone marrow" and asked the Honduran military troops not to face the people that went out to the streets to request the return of President Manuel Zelaya.

"The United States has a lot to do with this, Obama should be pronounced to reject the coup right from the marrow," the Venezuelan leader stated.

He specified that elements, such as the fact that the Honduran press media are braodcasting cartoons instead of information, corresponds with the format of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for the coup.

The format is to misinform the people, if it were not for Telesur that is locating in the heroic level in this battle, the images of the coup would not be transmitting, Chavez said.

The South American leader assured that behind the coup, it is the bourgeoisie and the rich people that transformed Honduras into a banana republic, a political, military and terrorist base of the US and of the US empire.

Chávez added that the coup was caused because he wanted to consult the people and asked the military troops to meditate and not to generate a genocide.

He also said that the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), of which nine countries are already members, among them Honduras and Venezuela, are in consultation and elaborating an anticoup strategy.

Cuba condemns Honduras coup as "criminal, brutal"

Sun Jun 28, 2009 6:48pm EDT

HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuba on Sunday condemned the military coup in Honduras as "criminal, brutal" and demanded the immediate return to office of deposed leftist President Manuel Zelaya.

The Honduran army ousted Zelaya and exiled him on Sunday in Central America's first military coup since the Cold War, after he upset the military by proposing an extension of his four-year term in office.

"I denounce the criminal, brutal character of this coup," Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez told a news conference in Havana.

Zelaya is viewed by Cuba's communist leadership as a leftist ally and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro had expressed backing for his efforts to hold an unofficial public vote on Sunday to gauge support for his plan to hold a November referendum on allowing presidential re-election.

"This coup has removed a legitimate and constitutional government simply for wanting to carry out a consultation ... in Honduras there is only one constitutional government, one constitutional president who should return immediately without conditions to the palace," Rodriguez said.

The Cuban foreign minister also denounced what he called the violent treatment by Honduran troops of several foreign ambassadors in Tegucigalpa, specifically those of Cuba and Venezuela.

Earlier, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Honduran soldiers took away the Cuban ambassador and left the Venezuelan ambassador on the side of a road after beating him during the coup. The Cuban ambassador was later released.

Rodriguez said the Cuban, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan ambassadors in Tegucigalpa had been seeking to give diplomatic shelter to Zelaya's Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas when a band of Honduran soldiers, their faces hooded, had tried to take her away. He said he was extremely concerned for her safety.

Chavez on Sunday put troops on alert over the coup in Honduras and said he would respond militarily if his envoy to the Central American country was kidnapped or killed.

Rodriguez said there were 84 people, including diplomats, women and children, at the Cuban embassy in Tegucigalpa and said Cuba was "ready to defend the integrity of our embassy".

Will Venezuela declare war on Honduras?

In the aftermath of the coup d'etat in Honduras by a general who was trained by the United States government at the infamous School of the Americas, things remain extremely tense.

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, declared the following:

Chávez, on state television, said that if troops entered the Venezuelan Embassy, "that military junta would be entering a defacto state of war. We would have to act militarily...."

"We will bring them down, we will bring them down, I tell you," he said, while hundreds of red-shirted Chávez supporters gathered outside Venezuela's presidential palace.

Military action by Venezuela and other countries, to restore the constitutional President of Honduras, is a strong possibility.

That is the question, I am sure, that many people are asking themselves. The United States has always had a predilection for that type of “democratic” initiative.

Uncle Sam never condemned or repudited the coup d'etat by General Fulgencio Batista on March 10, 1952. He was supported by his friends in the White House and the State Department.

You reap what you sow. If Uncle Sam continues to support coup d'etats he will continue to get Revolutions.

Anytime that you have a government that serves the interests of the people you are going to find the United States in opposition to that government. The U.S. government only serves the interests of huge corporations and the filthy rich.

The United States government has never broken diplomatic relations with governments which came to power via a military putsch. Richard Nixon and his Jew water carrier went to work immediately against democratically elected Salvador Allende, and as recently as 2002 Uncle Sam was an active supporter and participant in the attempted coup against democratically elected Hugo Chavez.

Update: Sunday June 28, 2009 6:00 p.m. A statement that was just issued by Barack Obama fell short of calling for the reinstatement of Zelaya as the legitimate president.

JG: I see the evil hands of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as instigators and promoters of this military coup. This spring President Manuel Zelaya was a leader in the effort to re-admit Cuba to the Organization of American States. Hillary and Obama were repudiated at San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Hillary was so bitter, that she left the city without addressing the OAS.

Now we really know what kind of "democracy" Obama and Hillary promote in Latin America. Shame on them!

Barack Obama strays away from the righteousness path

Sunday, Jun 28 Update: AFP is now reporting that "The White House dismissed reports that it has drafted an executive order allowing indefinite detention in the United States of some of the top terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay."

The uproar must have been very loud and clear. If you hold a person indefinitely without bringing him to trial, Barack Obama and his administration would be violating the constitution of the United States. It would be an impeachable offense.

The item below was posted on Jun 26:

The man who offered America so much audacious hope has become an evil person. The U.S. Constitution lies in tatters at his feet.

The Obama administration, has drafted an executive order that would reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely, The Washington Post reported today.

Civil liberties are being subverted one more time. The American people are the big losers. He is not any different than George W. Bush. He has betrayed the people who voted for him. How little difference is there between the Republican and the Democratic parties.

On the Cuba issue, he continues to protect and promote the genocidal Cuba embargo. The condemnation of the world last year by a vote of 185-3 at the United Nations apparently means little to him. He continues to bestow praise upon the mercenaries which the U.S. directs and finances inside Cuba.

Hail the new Caesar! Arrogance and unlimited power are his only interests. What a great disappointment!

He will be another mediocre president in the same mold as Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton.

Alarcon: No improved relations with U.S.

HAVANA (AFP) — Cuba said the detention of five of its nationals who were convicted of spying in the United States more than a decade ago, remained a major obstacle in normalizing ties with Washington.

"As long as this injustice continues, it will be a formidable obstacle, insurmountable, for having normal relations between the two countries," the president of Cuba's National Asembly of Peoples Power, Ricardo Alarcon, said on state television.

Alarcon said their continued imprisonment indicated that "the United States continues to be an official supporter of terrorism against Cuba."

Send Cuban “survivalists” to jail

Reuters has reported today, under the byline of Tom Brown, the doings of a very peculiar type of Cuban. He called this individual Jose.

Jose is part of the criminal elements inside Cuba today. They have no morals and no ethics, like their capitalists counterparts across the Florida Straits.

Tom Brown seems to be glorifying and/or protecting a criminal, by not identifying him and reporting him to the proper authorities. We all know this type of criminal. It is the type to whom the end justifies the means.

“If you can make money out of your criminal enterprise, it is not a crime,” Mr. Tom Brown and Jose both seem to be saying.

Jose, makes money by stealing Cohibas and Montecristos from a Partagas cigar factory.

"This isn't stealing. We do it to survive," said Jose.

And in their never ending efforts to publish negative stories about Cuba's system, the Tom Browns of Reuters and the Associated Press make Jose a hero. It is O.K. to steal from communists.

I say send the “survivalist” to jail.

Raul Castro: Obama's Cuba policies are minimal

Washington Examiner

By: WILL WEISSERT

Associated Press

06/20/09 9:20 PM EDT

HAVANA — Raul Castro dismissed Barack Obama's policy changes toward Cuba as "achieving only the minimum," and said Wednesday that it is up to the U.S. — not Cuba — to do more to improve relations.

The Cuban president suggested the communist government is not willing to appease Washington by embracing small political and social reforms on the island, saying in a speech before an international gathering of government ministers that "it is not Cuba who has to make gestures."

Raul's comments Wednesday appeared to take a harder line on unilateral concessions to meet U.S. expectations, and echoed the words of Fidel, who has written in public essays that Obama's policy changes did not go far enough because Washington's 47-year-old trade embargo is still in place.

The younger Castro said that the U.S. steps were, "fine, positive but only achieve the minimum. The embargo remains intact."

Cuba "will not to negotiate our sovereignty nor our political and social system, nor will it negotiate our right to self-determination and internal affairs," declared the Cuban president.

------

JG: Obama has not achieved much that is notable in his "new beginning" with Cuba. He is repeating and continuing the same failures of his ten predecessors. The U.S. is the aggressor country and therefore it is the one which has to change its behavior. Cuba will continue to ignore him as long as the embargo is kept in place.

If he were to reject the bad advice of Hillary Clinton and Robert Menendez, that would be real news and progress. Obama is stuck in the past and refuses to see the trees or the forest.

JEAN-GUY ALLARD

Extra! Extra! 800 pound gorilla afraid of a little mouse!

The recent arrest of two Washington D.C. U.S. citizens accused of being alleged spies for Cuba leads one to ask the following question: what is the U.S. afraid of other than the fact that Cuba is an example of a nation where the needs of the people are addressed and met by a government that has widespread popular support among the inhabitants of the island?

Can you imagine any sane country hiring as spies people that are in their seventies? Wait a second, I have to take my Geritol before I can send that coded message! Can you imagine an 800 pound gorilla being afraid of a mouse?

I think the answer lies in the fact that the U.S. did not do very well at the foreign ministers meeting of the OAS in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Cuba was invited to return to the OAS. The imperialists, led by Hillary Clinton, definitely did not like that, and so they had to retaliate.

So now, the imperialists have moved on and are very busy sticking their noses in the internal affairs of Iran.

When will they ever learn?

TV Marti is a waste of taxpayer money

This week there were hearings in Congress. A couple of propaganda efforts of the Yankee imperialists in their never ending efforts to subvert Cuba's Revolution came up for heavy criticism.

The empire has spent $500 million dollars in their effort to enslave Cuba again. They beam radio and TV propaganda broadcasts toward the Caribbean island. I claim that they are nothing more than the ministry of welfare checks for the Miami gusanos.

Congressman Bill Delahunt (D-MA), the chairman of the House Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight Subcommittee laid some heavy criticism on TV Marti, "I wanted to focus on what seems to me to be a most egregious waste of money. TV Marti does not seem to have an audience. It's a station that no one watches. So why spend all the money on it?, said the committee chairman"

Jess Ford, of the Government Accountability Office (GAO), said that despite using multiple methods, the station's audience remains small based on four telephone surveys conducted since 2003. "The four telephone surveys have reported less than one percent of the respondents had watched TV Marti over the past week. Most notably, the most recent surveys in 2006 and 2008 showed no increase in reported TV Marti viewership after the launch of the Aero Marti and Direct Broadcasting," reports VOA.

The Pentagon Mentality

Thursday, June 18, 2009, Fox News

By James Osborne

The Pentagon has removed a controversial question from its anti-terrorism training exam that labeled “protests” a form of “low-level terrorism,” calling the question “poorly worded.”

A Pentagon spokesman said the question failed to make clear the difference between illegal violent demonstrations and constitutionally protected peaceful protests.

The question asked:

“Which of the following is an example of low-level terrorism?”

— Attacking the Pentagon

— IEDs

— Hate crimes against racial groups

— Protests

The correct answer, according to the exam, was "Protests."

As Obama moves to the right, his popularity falls and independents begin to desert him

He offered a lot of hope last November to an electorate who disliked intensely the policies of George W. Bush, but now, as he moves to the right, he is beginning to loose support and independents are beginning to desert him.

How can his presidency survive if he begins to alienate the people who put him in power?

The new NBC News/Walls Street Journal released yesterday shows that the president’s overall approval rating is at 56 percent, which is down five percentage points from April.

The drop mainly comes from independents, who backed Obama by 60 percent to 31 percent in April, but approve of him now by a 46-44 clip.

He has moved to the right on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and on civil liberties, and on the Cuba issue he continues to listen to the bad advice of Hillary Clinton and Robert Menendez. I will not vote for him in 20012 if he continues to support the failed Cuba embargo.

The public also sees with great alarm the humongous federal deficit which seems to be accelerating on a daily basis. General Motors is bankrupt, California seems to be close to it. Never ending federal deficits could bankrupt the U.S.

Is he doomed to be a one term president? It is too early to tell, but if he continues to travel the path of saying “Me too” to failed Dubbya policies his future becomes doubful.

Hillary 'I-Hate-Cuba' Clinton continues her vendetta against the island

That diabolical woman who Barack Obama chose as his Secretary of State, continues with her never-ending vendetta against Cuba.

Hillary has continued the 'black lists' of George W. Bush. This week she continued to place the Caribbean island in a 'human trafficking' black list. Before that she continued to keep Cuba in the 'sponsors of terrorisms' black list. I wonder if Hillary owns stock in the company that manufactures the little black list books?

Frankly speaking, the 'change you can believe in' and the 'new beginning' with Cuba of Barack Obama are proving to be nothing but empty campaign rhetoric. He is AWOL on real change for our Cuba policies.

Obama has moved consistently to the right and continues the failed polices of George W. Bush. He continues to support the failed Cuba embargo. He has continued the war in Iraq and has made Afghanistan his war, thus wasting billions of dollars that could be used to put people back to work here at home. He does not seem too preoccupied with the fact that the unemployment rate could soon top the 10 to 11% percent mark. He has promised to defend the federal 'Defense of Marriage Act' thus angering the LGBT community. He has refused to release the photos of American atrocities committed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And he looks the other way while his National Security Agency continues to intercept the phone calls and emails of law-abiding Americans.

Is this what we voted for last November?

A lot of people are beginning to be disappointed by the actions of his administration.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Architect of 'Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias' will design USF Polytechnic Building

Architect Santiago Calatrava displays his current model for a transportation hub at ground zero in downtown Manhattan in New York in May. Photo: OZIER MUHAMMAD | THE NEW YORK TIMES

Santiago Calatrava, the well known and famous Valencia architect who designed the extraordinarily beautiful Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, will design the first building of the new campus of the University of South Florida Polytechnic at the intersections of I-4 and Polk Parkway, reports The Ledger.

The building will open its doors in late summer of 2012.

If you want to see more beautiful photos of Señor Calatrava's work go to http://poly.usf.edu/Calatrava/

THE ARCHITECT

Santiago Calatrava, 57, an internationally known architect and engineer, was born near Valencia, Spain, on July 28, 1951. He studied art as a child and originally planned to study art in college. But he switched to architecture and studied five years at 'Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura' in Valencia, Spain. He then studied civil engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

In 1981, he opened his first architectural and engineering office in Zurich. He opened a second office in Paris in 1989.

He is known for designing distinctive civic structures, starting with a series of bridge projects. Those designs began in the 1980s with the Bach de Roda Bridge, which was commissioned for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Other designs include the Pont de l'Europe (Bridge of Europe) over the Loire River in OrlÈans, France; the Alamillo Bridge and viaduct for the World's Fair in Seville, Spain; and a $23.5 million glass and steel footbridge in Redding, Calif.

Buildings he has designed include Tenerife Opera House in the Canary Islands, the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens, BCE Place Mall in Toronto and an addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum that first brought his work into the United States.

Stop home-grown terrorism

People's Weekly World Editorial

06/14/09 10:13

Gunmen carried out two assassinations in the United States in 12 days proving that “home-grown” terrorists are ready to act out their hatred of women, African Americans, Latinos, immigrants and people of Jewish background.

On May 31, Dr. George Tiller was shot to death while worshipping at his Wichita church. Tiller’s accused assassin is Scott Roeder, a violent, anti-abortionist who had made repeated death threats against Tiller. He was the fifth physician assassinated, victim of a 35-year campaign of terrorism against women’s reproductive rights. Tiller’s Wichita clinic has now been closed.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly routinely referred to Dr. Tiller as “Tiller the Baby Killer” and once stopped just short of blurting what he would do “if I could get my hands on” Tiller. His rabid incitements reflected the extremist ideology of Fox owner, Rupert Murdoch. In an interview with AP, Roeder boasted, “I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortions remain legal.”

The shooting death of Security Guard Stephen T. Johns, a Black man, at the Holocaust Museum in Washington has also been traced to the extreme right. Arrested in the murder was anti-Semite, James von Brunn, who had resided with the Aryan Nation white supremacists at Hayden Lake, Idaho. In his car, police found a notebook with a handwritten note, “You want my weapons—this is how you’ll get them. The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by the Jews.”

The federal government spends billions of tax dollars deporting undocumented workers, not one of them a “terrorist.” But law enforcement at all levels has been AWOL in protecting against domestic terrorism.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned in April that the “economic recession, the election of America’s first Black President and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white power militias.”

Republican right denounced her timely report as an “attack” on veterans, anti-abortionists, and anti-immigrant crusaders. Some even called for her resignation.

The latest venom comes from actor Jon Voight who denounced President Obama at a GOP fundraiser as a “softspoken Julius Caesar” that America must be “freed” from. “Bring an end to this false prophet, Obama,” Voight ranted, sounding like Brutus. It is a federal crime to threaten violence against the President.

The accused assassins should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Abortion clinics, doctors, their staffs, and their patients must be protected. But the best answer is to defeat the hatemongers politically. Boycott Fox News. Demand Senate confirmation of Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, latest target of hate. Build maximum unity to win healthcare for all, employee free choice, “green” jobs, immigrant reform, an end to wars, and a more inclusive, tolerant democracy in our country.

NOTA in 2012?

Disillusion is beginning to set in for me when it comes to Obama and his handling of the Cuba issue. He has been a big disappointment so far, and up to this point I would have to give him a big F as a grade.

Obama could very well turn into another Bill Clinton. He started well in 1992. I voted for him. Then he prostituted himself by jumping into bed with none other than super racist U.S. Senator Jesse Helms and signing into law the infamous Helms-Burton Act. In 1996 and 2000 I voted for Ralph Nader.

The Cuba embargo is a failure, and Obama risks becoming another failure by continuing to support it.

Will I have to write-in 'None of the Above' when I vote for president in 2012? No I won't! I will again vote for a third party candidate, if Obama continues traveling the path of failure on the Cuba issue.

Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power responds to the U.S. Supreme Court

New oil rig to start operating off Cuba's coast

www.guardian.co.uk reported today that a new oil rig will start operating off Cuba's coast in about six to eight weeks.

Excerpts:

A consortium lead by Spain's Repsol-YPF will be the first to begin drilling for oil after taking possession of the new oil rig. Repsol drilled a test well in 2004 and at the time said it discovered traces of high quality oil, but it was not commercially viable at the time.

Repsol has an agreement with Cuba for exploration on six offshore blocks and will this time team with Norsk Hydro and ONGC Videsh of India on the project.

One industry source said the drilling platform could eventually be used by other foreign interests for drilling offshore -- especially if results are promising.

American companies will not participate because of the U.S. embargo of Cuba.

The fields off Cuba's northern coast are estimated to contain some 5 billion barrels of oil and 10 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Supreme Court fails again to uphold the Constitution

It was to be expected, due to the hate atmosphere that engulfs this nation. The U.S. Supreme court declined today to review the case of the Cuban Five. If there is a city that is extremely biased against Cuba, it is Miami, Florida. The trial against the Five was similar to what the early Christians encountered before they had to face the lions. The legions of Fulgencio Batista supporters still govern that city and their hordes still enforce a rigid regime of intolerance and violence against anyone that dares to confront their thuggish tactics. It is like the old SIM has moved to that city.

The trial of the Cuban Five was a farce. It was held in an atmosphere of intimidation. That is the imprimatur of the Miami gusanos.

If you say anything that they interpret as being “nice” to the Cuban government their Nazi-like chants of “Comunista! Comunista! echo throughout the city and their media mouthpieces. Violence by extremist right wing organizations in that cesspool of a city are not uncommon.

The Cuban Five are heroes inside the island. They had infiltrated organizations that were promoting terrorist activities against the island. The hypocrisy of the imperialists knows no bounds. It is OK to conduct terrorist activities again governments that are not approved by the empire.

To the Dred Scott decision, we have to add this one today. Officially sanctioned hate toward Cuba will continue. It is OK to torture and it is OK to overthrow governments as long as the U.S. is the one doing it. I say shame on the Supreme Court Nine!

The dignity of the Five will serve as a beacon and an example for the Cuban people to continue to defend their independence and national sovereignty.

With people that have this kind of mentality it is impossible to have better relations.

Professional Whiner Yoani Sanchez Strikes Again!

The Oracle of Time Magazine, Yoani Sanchez, is in the news again. Is she is going to run out of things to say and criticize about the Cuban government? I doubt it very much. Polly will keep up her parroting. There is a shortage of crackers in Cuba.

I have met many Yoani Sanchez during my life, and I am sure that you have too. You know the type. They are people that whine and complain about just anything and everything. If it is a beautiful sunny day, she will say that dark clouds are gathering, and that rain will start falling any minute.

Yoani is a professional whiner. That is what she does for a living and I am sure that she is paid very well from outside the island for her assigned task.

She must be an extremely sad person. She is totally inconsequential inside Cuba and has zero popularity in the island. People just do not pay any attention to the things she has to say. Her “mission impossible” is to try to bring down the Cuban government. The imperialists, up to this point, have tried just about everything in their book of dirty tricks in their never ending efforts to to try to reinstate their Batista-style freedom and democracy to the island.

I still think that she would be much happier living in Miami. Think about it! When La Loba Feroz retires, Yoani could run for the U.S. House of Representatives and then proceed to give pompous speeches in the floor of that august body. She would be received with big cheers and acclaims at the Big Five and most likely would be crowned Queen of the Big Mac.

She would be as happy as a clam!

Analyst: shots that killed Kennedy came from the front

In a diary entry by Gene Cappa published today in Op-Ed News, he claims that the fatal shots that killed John F. Kennedy came from the front and not from the back as claimed by the widely disbelieved Warren Commission Report. He also claims, that if it happened back then, together with the subsequent cover-up, it could happen again today. The unnamed groups are that powerful.

Cappa claims that "at the time of his assassination, President Kennedy was in the midst of intense efforts to end the Cold War. Had he lived to run for a second term, it seems likely that the Cold War would have ended some 25 years earlier than it did. Instead, through the time that the Cold War ended in 1991 we were ruled by a series of U.S. presidents who (with the exception of Jimmy Carter) sought to expand the Cold War, and along with it the imperial presidency and the scope and size of the Military Industrial Complex."

He reports about "nine doctors and a nurse, that saw and treated President Kennedy at Parkland Hospital prior to his death. The skull at the back of Kennedy's head was noted to have “exploded outwards”. The physicians characterized this wound as an exit wound. He also reports that David Lifton's book "Best Evidence" also deals with the wound at the front of the throat, which the physicians characterized as being an entrance wound.

He also reports that "Kennedy resisted four times over two years the strenuous efforts of his CIA and military to draw him into an invasion of Cuba. Instead of letting them draw him into a situation that could very well have led to a nuclear war, Kennedy sought an accommodation with Castro’s Cuba in the last months of his life."

-----

JG: I do not claim to have any evidence other than what I read in America's mainstream media. But, I have always asked myself "Who wanted Kennedy dead and why?" and I come up with these suspects:

1) Right wing Cuban exiles in Miami who were extremely upset over their ignominious defeat at the Bay of Pigs. They never forgave JFK for ordering the cancellation of the U.S. air cover which was to accompany their mercenary invasion. I have read in Internet reports that terrorist Luis Posada Carriles and other anti-Cuba fanatics were present in Dallas on that fateful and tragic day.

2) The C.I.A. for the same reasons exposed above. They were not as competent as in 1948 when they overthrew President Arbenz in Guatemala.

3) The Mob, who was still smarting from loosing their casinos and brothels in Havana after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, and who disliked Bobby Kennedy's constant investigations of their criminal activities in the continental United States.

They had the power and the means to do it, and yes, it could happen again. Assassinations have always been a prominent way to solve things in the United States. The stuff about "democracy and liberty" is for the consumption of the gullible and illiterate masses.

Will Florida Governor Charlie Crist sign H.R. 1171, the Property Insurance for Suckers Bill? Email him TODAY!

Dear Governor Crist:

I am writing to urge you to veto H.R. 1171, which arrived at you desk on Friday. This bill would eliminate practically all state regulation of the property insurance companies, which will effectively allow that greedy bunch to charge any amount that the traffic will bear.

According to newspaper reports, some insurance companies have raised their rates by 500 percent. Do not let this state of affairs continue.

Do not let the property insurance companies continue to rip-off the Florida property owners.

Veto H.R. 1171.

Sincerely,

Your Name, City

When Harry Truman opened Pandora's Box

Let us relay what was reported directly from one of the Japanese in his interview with Marcel Junod, a representative of the Red Cross, speaking about the reality of this most frightening explosion. He said: And suddenly there appeared these intense, muddy pinkish lights, accompanied by an unnatural tremor. This was immediately followed by an asphyxiating wave of heat and violent winds that ravaged everything in their path.

Within only a few seconds, thousands of people who walked the roads or sat in the city's main streets were burned alive. A great number were then killed by the intense heat that spread all over. Others were left lying on the ground screaming in pain with deadly burns all over their bodies. Anything that had been at the point of impact, walls, homes, factories, and other buildings was completely and totally annihilated, with all traces of these things sent hurling into the sky in a ghastly whirlwind. Trams were plucked from their steel tracks and flung as if they had lost their weight and substance. Trains were lifted off the ground along with their tracks as if they were mere toys. Horses, dogs, and livestock were all befallen with what befell the people. Every living thing had lost its life in one painful turn of events too difficult to describe. Trees were engulfed in blazing fires, rice fields lost their color, and farms crackled and burned away like dry straw.

As for the surrounding areas that escaped instant death: Homes were crumbled and only piles of wooden boards remained amongst bricks and stone foundations. Everything was crushed as if they were cardboard houses in a zone of destruction 10 meters in diameter. Those who survived found themselves totally surrounded by raging fires. The few people who managed to get to any type of shelter in time died painful deaths from gamma radiation within 20 to 30 days. By nightfall on the day of the blast, the blaze slowed down and then died out, finding nothing left to fuel it. Hiroshima had passed away into nothingness.

Mount St. Helens is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980, at 8:32am PDT which was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States. Fifty-seven people were killed; 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles (24 km) of railways, and 185 miles (298 km) of highway were destroyed. The eruption caused a massive debris avalanche, reducing the elevation of the mountain's summit from 9,677 feet (2,950 m) to 8,365 feet (2,550 m) and replacing it with a 1 mile (1.6 km) wide horseshoe-shaped crater. The debris avalanche was up to 0.7 cubic miles (2.9 km3) in volume. The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was created to preserve the volcano and allow for its aftermath to be scientifically studied.

Two Intertwined Words

Cuba is Fidel and Fidel is Cuba. That is a true reality, unless of course you are part of the rapidly shrinking crowd of Fulgencio Batista supporters who live in South Florida. They are blind, because they do want to see. They sulk and spew their hate toward the Pearl of the Antilles, while they kiss the posterior of their adopted foreign masters.

Before 1959, Cuba was a little inconsequential country of little more than six million people. Havana was an American brothel, where low moral Yankees traveled to indulge in their sick and abnormal pleasures. The Mob ruled Havana for the benefit of Batista and the imperialists. American corporations owned more than half the island.

Y en eso llegó Fidel. And then, Fidel arrived.

Today, Cuba is admired throughout the world for defying the colossus of the North, who can only show a failed economic embargo and attempted assassinations of the island's top leadership. People marvel at Cuba's health care and educational systems and its prowess in sports. Fidel kicked the Cuban escoria and their Mafia acolytes all the way to Miami, Florida.

When you have a government that truly cares about the needs of the people, rather than the needs of huge corporations, miracles can and will take place.

No more capitalist's scams in Socialist Cuba. The natives are happy!

Health care in Canada and the United States

Nicholas Kritoff, a journalist at the New York Times wrote, two days ago, an excellent piece titled Next Time, We Won't Scare.

An American lawyer named Diane Tucker, aged 59, moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 2006. She pays $48 a month for her health-care coverage. In 2008 she had a stroke. When she was transferred in a rush to a Canadian hospital and she checked in, no one asked her for money. The day she left no one asked her for money. She underwent three months of rehabilitation, including physical therapy several times a week. Again there was no charge, no co-payment.

In a visit to San Francisco, California, USA, she fainted. She was taken to an American hospital. “The first person I saw was a lady with a computer,” she said, “asking me how I intended to pay the bill.” Ms. Tucker did, in fact, have insurance, but she was told she would have to pay herself and seek reimbursement.

Nothing was seriously wrong, and the hospital discharged her after five hours. The bill came to $8,789.29.

That is the big difference between heath-care in Canada and the United States. Our northern neighbors want you to get better when you are sick. Here, they want to stick their hands into your pockets and grab as much money as they possibly can.

Socialized medicine works. For-profit medicine screws you. It is like a legal mugging!

Fidel talks about the C.I.A.'s Operation Peter Pan

Prensa Latina English Translation

¿Será acaso aquel profesor?, me preguntaba.

I dare you to throw the first stone...

Jesus, however, went to the Mount of Olives. At daybreak he appeared again in the temple, and all the people came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them. But the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery. After setting her before them, they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the very act of adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women to death. What do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they might have a charge against him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Then he bent down again and continued writing on the ground. When they heard this, they went away one by one, beginning with the oldest, and he was left alone with the woman standing there. Then Jesus stood up and said to her, “Dear lady, where are your accusers? Hasn't anyone condemned you?”

She said, “No one, sir.”

Then Jesus said, “I don't condemn you, either. Go home, and from now on do not sin any more.”
