Cuba Week in Brunswick

Celebrate our 8th annual Cuba Week
from April 9th to the 18th


All events take place in downtown Brunswick
and are open to the public

April 9

Cuban Salsa Dance with DJ Rickey Hines. 7:00 PM, Elks Lodge, 179 Maine Street. Chem-free dance party for all ages, salsa dance lessons from 7-8:00 PM Admission $5 student/seniors; $10 adults.

April 11

Papalotes! (59 Kites) 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Farley Fields (behind Watson Ice Arena on the Bowdoin campus). First generation Cuban-American artist Nestor Gil will lead this free community event of kite flying and provide an informal history of Cuban kites. Handmade paper kites will be available to fly and share. Free and open to the public.

April 12

Journey Back to Trinidad, Cuba. 7:00 PM, Curtis Memorial Library, 25 Pleasant Street. Members of BTSCA share their experiences after their recent return as a medical delegation to Cuba. Free and open to the public.

April 13

¡Salud! Frontier Cafe, Cinema, & Gallery, Fort Andross. 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Documentary in which Former President Jimmy Carter is quoted: “Of all the so-called developing nations, Cuba has by far the best health system. And their outreach program to other countries is unequaled anywhere.”

April 15

Presentation of the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, 7:00 PM, Cram Alumni Barn, 83 Federal Street. Featuring special guest Lillian Holloway, a graduate of LASM in Havana. A discussion of medical training opportunities and present day health care in Cuba. Free and open to the public.

April 17

Grupo Esperanza. 7:30 - 10:00PM. Frontier Cafe, Cinema, & Gallery, Fort Andross. Nine-piece afro-Caribbean dance band, open to all ages. $10 admission fee.

Ongoing

Cuban cuisine and libations at various Brunswick eateries. Participating businesses include Frontier Cafe, Cinema & Gallery, Henry & Marty Restaurant and Catering, Scarlet Begonias, Wild Oats Bakery & Cafe, El Camino, The Little Dog Coffee Shop, Big Top Deli, and Wildflours Gluten Free Market & Bakery with more establishments to be announced.
