The American imperialists have not forgotten about January First, 1959. Before that day, from 1902 to 1958 the Americanos ruled Cuba through pliant puppets like Gerardo Machado and General Fulgencio Batista. Because of the fact that Cuba lies only 90 miles south of Key West, the imperialists mistakenly believe that they have a right to stick their collective noses in the internal affairs of the island. They are still living in a Uncle Sam in Wonderland time warp.
Before Liberation Day, the Americans owned most of Cuba's economy, including the huge sugar mills, the telephone company, the electricity company and Cuba's vast holdings of nickel resources. The American Mafia ran Havana's gambling casinos and bordellos, and the American embassy was never concerned about human rights.
If Cubans, either under reform minded Raul Castro or under future rulers give the Americanos an inch, they could end up losing their island to the shop-till-you-drop capitalist entrepreneurs to the north of the Florida Straits.
That is the reasons why Cubans must continue to defend their national sovereignty and independence from the rapacious and predatory capitalists from Miami and Washington, D.C.
