He is merely diverting "resources," i.e. the U.S. military, from Iraq to Afghanistan. Who is he trying to fool? He did not carry through with his campaign promise to end the war in Iraq within 13 months of him being installed in the White House. He is a typical cunning and lying U.S. politician. Keeping 50,000 combat troops in Iraq is not ending the war. They will stay there so that we can continue to "protect" the oil which we stole from the Iraqi people.
The U.S. now controls all the oil reserves in Iraq. This war was a typical imperialist war to conquer and "acquire" resources, in this case the huge oil reserves of Iraq. The story about the search for weapons of mass destruction was for the consumption of the gullible sheep in the U.S. The military-industrial complex has made billions of dollars in profits in Iraq, while the cannon fodder among the enlisted servicemen have paid a very heavy price.
In Afghanistan, it is the same thing. We are no longer hunting for Osama Bin Laden. The "operation" has been changed from the original intent. They are again telling the gullible sheep that we are engaged in "nation building" while at the same time the U.S. now controls the main crop which generates millions, if not billions of dollars, heroin. We all know how much the capitalists love to get their hands on cash, whether it is heroin in Afghanistan, cocaine in Colombia or marijuana in Mexico.
Capitalism is always motivated by extreme greed! The more Obama "changes" things, the more they stay the same!
Remember also that Iran also has huge oil reserves, and the U.S. has reached what is called 'peak oil.' Do not be surprised if Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu, start another war with Iran, using the excuse that Iran is building nuclear weapons. What a pair of hypocrites and liars!
