Cuba's CTC announces workforce changes

The Confederacion de Trabajadores Cubanos (Confederation of Cuban Workers, CTC by its Spanish acronym,) has announced that there are going to be changes in the island's workforce.

The note published in Granma, stated the following: "En correspondencia con el proceso de actualización del modelo económico y las proyecciones de la economía para el periodo 2011-2015, se prevé en los Lineamientos para el año próximo la reducción de más de 500 000 trabajadores en el sector estatal y paralelamente su incremento en el sector no estatal. El calendario para su ejecución está concebido por los organismos y empresas, hasta el primer trimestre del 2011.
"
Translation: "Corresponding to the process of actualizing the current economic model and the economic projections for the period 2011-2015, it is provided in the line-up for the year 2011 for the reduction of more than 500,000 workers in the state sector, and parallel to that, a similar increase in the non-state sector. The calendar for the execution of the plan is being conceived by the organisms and enterprises [of the nation], until the third trimester of 2011."
