Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba to be held next year

Raul Castro: The Political Bureau [of the Comunist Party of Cuba] has agreed to convene the Sixth Congress for the second fortnight of April next year, the 50th Anniversary of the Victory at Playa Girón and the Proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution.

The VI Congress will focus on solving the problems of the economy and the key decisions of the Cuban economic model update and adopt the Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution.

HAVANA, Nov. 8 (XinhuaNet) -- Cuban President Raul Castro announced Monday that the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) will convene its sixth congress in April next year.

The event, the first of its kind in over a decade, will "redefine the direction of the local economy" and "make fundamental decisions to update the economic model," Castro said alongside Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at a ceremony here celebrating their countries' bilateral cooperation.

Later next year, the PCC will hold a national conference "to discuss other matters of internal importance to the organization," added Castro, second secretary of the PCC, which is chaired by Fidel Castro.

Initially, the PCC congress had taken place every five years to design economic and social strategies for the party and the nation. However, the last session was in October 1997, after which the ruling party decided to postpone the next congress without public explanation.

Cuba has suffered deep financial woes in recent years, and is trying various measures to "update" its economy, such as eliminating 50-year-old subsidies and gratuities, encouraging self-employment and small private businesses, and relocating part of its workforce for "better use."

El logotipo del Partido Comunista de Cuba, fue concebido por el pintor cubano Orlando Yanes. Inspirado en una imagen de carácter histórico que representa un momento del acto del 16 de abril de 1961, en la céntrica esquina de 23 y 12 en el Vedado, Ciudad de La Habana, representando el escenario de fusiles levantados por los brazos y puños vigorosos de nuestros obreros allí congregados para rendir homenaje y asistir al entierro de las víctimas del bombardeo mercenario que precedió la invasión a Playa Girón (primera derrota del imperialismo yanqui en América), y próximos a entrar en combate contra los invasores.

El pueblo pudo proclamar ya, con heroica determinación, el carácter socialista de la Revolución Cubana.

El logotipo plasmado dentro de un rectángulo de ángulos ovalados en línea de color rojo, presenta dos banderas que sobresalen de entre los brazos y armas en alto empuñados por el pueblo, representados aquí en color negro: una es la bandera roja, símbolo del proletariado y del carácter comunista del Partido, y la bandera cubana, símbolo de nuestra patria, además sobre el color negro se incrusta las siglas PCC (Partido Comunista de Cuba.), en color blanco siluetado en rojo.

Para cada Congreso, históricamente se presenta el logotipo del Partido Comunista de Cuba a modo de versión, cambiando solamente su estructura para adecuarlo al número que le corresponda a cada evento, el cual es utilizado en la identificación de los documentos del Partido entre Congresos.
