Posada Carriles will be tried only for lying, says Lawyer Jose Pertierra

Havana, Cuba, Jan 9.- Jose Pertierra, the lawyer that represents Venezuela in its extradition request against international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles reiterated that the criminal will only be tried for lying, at a process scheduled to start on Monday, in Texas.

In statements to PL news agency, Pertierra stressed that Posada will be judged for perjury and for using lies to obstruct an investigation on international terrorism. However, he will not be tried for terrorism or murder despite his bulky and bloody records, which include the bombing in mid air of a Cuban airliner in 1976 and the death of Italian tourist Fabio Di Celmo in 1997.

“This is a case that has been manipulated out of the Department of Justice, and I think that this case has been dealt with in the circles of power in Washington, in the White House, in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA),” Pertierra said.

JG: If Luis Posada Carriles were to be placed on trial for being a terrorist, rather than for being just a liar, he would spill the beans on his connections with the CIA. The attitude in the White House, under both George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama is still that "He may be a terrorist, but he is OUR terrorist." Hypocrisy, thy name is United States!
