FBI informant: "Santiago Alvarez went aboard the Santrina to Isla Mujeres to pick up Posada Carriles and then brought him to Miami"

The trial of Luis Posada Carriles in El Paso, Texas, turned deadly against him yesterday. Gilberto Abascal, an FBI informer who had infiltrated the ranks of anti-Cuba gusanos in Miami, testified that Santiago Alvarez and his friends went to Isla Mujeres in Mexico, with the specific purpose of picking up Luis Posada Carrieles to take him to Miami, Florida.

After the Santrina headed for Mimi and arrived there, the boat went upstream the Miami River, and a speed boat picked up Luis Posada Carriles and took him to a Miami restaurant. The chief of police of Miami was having dinner at the restaurant.

Yet to testify against Posada is Ann Louise Bardach, who published an interview with Posada Carriles in the New York Times where the terrorist took credit for for the Havana hotel bombings of 1997.
