In the United States we have a one party state. The party is the Capitalist Party. It has two branches, the Democrats and the Republicans, or like Ralph Nader liked to say, Tweedledee and Tweedledum.
In Brazil, a truly vibrant and working democracy, you have eighteen political parties. Their people elected the candidate of the Workers Party, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva to the presidency, twice. In the United States there is no Workers Party, so no matter who you vote for, the capitalists are going to, and will screw you in the end.
A person who belongs to the working class and votes for the candidates of the Capitalist Party is a person who is voting against his best self interests.
But then, there are elections when voting for the lesser of two evils is a necessity. 2008 was such a year. After the disaster of George W. Bush, it was no surprised that the people turned to Barack Obama.
But Obama has been a big disappointment. He has promoted the interests of the big corporations and the super rich.
If the Republicans are dumb enough to nominate a Sarah Palin, who is totally unqualified for the Oval Office, Obama will win again. Things will not change.
I wish that Bernie Sanders would run as an independent. I could then vote for a candidate that I really believe in.
