WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner asked Congress to raise the US debt ceiling Thursday, firing the starting gun on a fresh political battle over the country's massive deficit.
In a letter to the Senate's top legislator, Geithner asked for permission to increase the national debt from the 14.29 trillion dollar limit set last year.
Geithner warned that ceiling would be reached as early as this March, and called on Congress to act to avoid the treat of default.

JG: The Republicans and the Tea Nut Baggers have repeatedly said they will vote against increasing the debt ceiling. The U.S. will default and become the biggest deadbeat ever.
Because U.S. politicians are as corrupt as they come, I will bet that they will comply with the request, and will put an ever larger load of debts on the backs of the suffering American people.
