LAKE WALES | Mike Carter easily won election as Lake Wales' mayor, after a contentious campaign that swirled around questions of fiscal responsibility and opponent John Paul Rogers' past as Florida grand dragon of the United Klans of America.
In unofficial results, Carter received 784 of the 1,073 votes cast Tuesday, or 73 percent, to Rogers' 289 votes.
In Lake Wales, the mayor is elected for a one-year term by popular vote from sitting commissioners who are not up for re-election.

JG: I hope that the voters of Lake Wales will also defeat John Paul Rogers if he runs again for city commissioner. The citizens of Lake Wales are law abiding, and should not be represented by this former KKK supporter.
