Granma and Las Coloradas

This province of Cuba takes its name from the yacht, Granma, which landed near its southwestern tip bearing Castro, Raul, Camilo, Che, and their supporters. The landing took place on December 2nd, 1956.

The majestic mountains of the Sierra Maestra, main mountain range in Cuba, the intense blue Caribbean Sea and the fertile plains bathed by the Cauto River make of Granma a fan of contrasts. This along with its more than 40 archaeological sites, its more than 60 km of explorable caves and caverns and many other aspects of this region made UNESCO declare the Desembarco del Granma National Park (Granma Landing National Park) a World Heritage Site.

At the lower left corner of this province map you can see the Playa Las Coloradas, where the Cuban revolutionaries of the 26 of July Movement landed to start the last phase of the Cuban Revolution which would free the island from the domination of the Yankee imperialists and their associates/partners in the American Mafia.
