Round 8 of the Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament: Le Quang Liem takes sole possesion of first place

Vietnam's Grandmaster Le Quang Liem defeated Cuba's Lazaro Bruzon, taking sole possession of first place in the 46th edition of the Capablanca in Memoriam Tournament.

Cuban Grandmaster Leinier Dominguez prevailed over his Czech Grandmaster opponent, David Navara.

Vassilly Ivanchuk defeated Dmitry Andreikin.

Lazaro Bruzon must be asking for a Hara Kiri sword. I feel bad for him.

The Capablanca website crashed and the live games were not available on the Internet.

Positions after the end of round eight:

2) Dmitry Andreikin: 4.5
3) David Navara: 4.5
5) Vasily Ivanchuck: 4.5

Quang Liem becomes chess international super grandmaster

(VOV) - Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem officially became an international super grandmaster after obtaining an Elo ranking of 2.700 on May 19.

This is the first time a Vietnamese chess player has received that honour.

Liem, who is leading the Capablanca Memorial 2011, is also the world’s second youngest chess player in the top 40 of the list of international super grandmasters.

In the Asian region, he is placed 4th after Anand from India and Wang Hao and Wang Yue from China.
