WASHINGTON --

A controversial state law that restricts state colleges and universities from traveling to Cuba may soon be heading to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The law, which was passed in 2006, bars public schools from using state money for travel considered to be "sponsors of terrorism," including Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria.

According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, the American Civil Liberties Union and faculty at three Florida universities (University of South Florida, University of Florida and Florida International University) asked the Supreme Court to review the law.

The Supreme Court has in turn asked the Obama administration to outline its stance on the law.

However, the Supreme Court will not be able to weigh in until a case is filed by the Solicitor General. There is no word as to whether that will happen.

The law was declared unconstitutional in 2008 by a U.S. District judge in Miami, but it was upheld in September by a federal appeals court in Atlanta.

JG: This hate law was passed by the fanatical right-wingers of both parties in the Florida legislature. For them, it is more important to continue receiving campaign contributions from the supporters of that illustrious "democrat," General Fulgencio Batista. God creates them and the devil unites them.
