At the final game competition of the World Baseball Challenge played yesterday at the city of Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, Cuba's National Team came from behind and defeated the Taiwanese by the score of 10-5. It was the first time that Cuba had played at this new baseball tournament.
In the second inning, the Taiwan squad scored four runs and chased-out Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, Cuba's starter. Cuba came back on the fifth inning and scored ten runs. That would be enough to win the gold medal.
Here is how Cuba's batters performed: Yoelvis Leyva (3-1), Héctor Olivera (3-0), Frederich Cepeda (4-1), Alfredo Despaigne (4-1), José Dariel Abreu (4-2), Yulieski Gourriel (3-2), Rudy Reyes (4-3), Ariel Pestano (3-0) and Yorbis Borroto (2-0).
