NATO assasinates three granchildren and a son of Qaddafi

NATO missiles with the mark 'Made In U.S.A.' have assassinated three grandchildren and the son of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, several sources are reporting on the Internet.

This campaign by the NATO gangsters that Barack Obama uses is not about protecting civilians, but regime change in Libya, like George W. Bush did in Iraq. The imperialists were very successful in stealing by force the oil reserves of Iraq. Thy aim to do the same thing in Libya.

There are reports that the US and NATO are going to officially register a new business trademark: DEATH R' US. Their new "toys" are causing thousands of deaths throughout the civilized world.

The escalating war in Libya is adding billions of dollars to the debts already accumulated by Barack Obama since he took office. How long before he totally bankrupts the United States with his foreign military adventures? The Republicans and the Democrats are extremely happy that their buddies in the Military Industrial Complex will be making billions of dollars in profits in Libya. That means that the capitalist parties will be getting larger "campaign contributions" in 2012.

News that the imperialist press doesn't give you

The imperialists in the United States continue to be consumed by their hatred for a system that truly helps human beings. The marketing of overpriced techie gadgets is more important to them.

The World Council for Peace has awarded the Olive for Peace to the historical leader of the Cuban revolution, Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz, reports Cubadebate.

The Nobel Peace price is vastly over-hyped. It was given to a nobody who represents war and destruction.

Ciego de Avila lives to fight another battle

Yadir Rabí

Ciego de Avila defeated Pinar del Rio 3-1 tonight. They will play the sixth game on Monday night. Pinar del Rio has three victories and Ciego de Avila only two.

A Cuba Journal Translation: Bad humor, Bellyful and Anger

From the foreign press

David Brook

This is change? This is the question asked on a small pill box which has an image of Barack Obama. They are called disappointment mints and they are made by the Unemployed Philosophers Guild, a co-op which before had produced another small pill box praising Obama's election.

They are not the only ones which question the slogan and the promise of Obama's presidential campaign: change you can believe in . As a matter of fact, this week a national poll registered, as titled by the the New York Times, that the state of mind of the nation is at its lowest point in two years; 70% say that the country is traveling on the wrong track. The polling by the Times and CBS News pointed out that Americans are more pessimist about the economic perspectives and the direction of the country since any other moment when the Obama presidency started.

With those opinions, it is not surprising that there are more negative feelings toward the political leadership. Seventy five percent disapprove of the performance of the Congress and 57% disapprove of the way that Obama manages his economic policies; his general approval rate is only 46% , against 45% which disapprove.

All of that illustrates a growing disillusionment, bellyful and anger in the country, for the high unemployment, millions of people who loose their homes, increases in gasoline prices, millions who suffer from hunger, two wars without end – plus more recent military interventions like Libya and Syria –, an anti-immigrant wave while the government affirms that it wants to resolve that matter (Obama said it again this week) and he deports more undocumented persons than his predecessor, a war against drugs which continues the same failed policies of the last 40 years. Not even in the field of civil rights have things improved with the first Afro-American president.

More Afro-American males are in prison, on parole or on bail than those who were slaves in 1850, before the start of the civil war, affirms Michelle Alexander, professor of law at Ohio State University, when she presented her best seller book about massive incarceration in the U.S., specially among African-Americans and Hispanics, reported the LA Progressive. The majority of that increase is because of the war against drugs, a war which is directed primarily against communities of color.

At the same time, none of those responsible for the most severe economic crisis since the great depression, which generated massive unemployment, lost homes and cuts in programs of social assistance, are in jail. On the contrary, they celebrate their prosperity. Even worse, they do it while contributing much less to public treasuries which are in trouble, and therefore causing job losses among teachers, nurses and other public sector workers. The largest company in the United States, General Electric, obtained profits of 14.2 billion dollars in its world operations last year. How much did they pay in taxes here? Zero, thanks to its great accounting team, which knows how to do this type of thing legally.

A few day ago, the AP news agency informed us that General Electric decided to pay 3.2 billion dollars for tax rebates which it had received from the U.S. Treasury, but a few hours later the agency had to retract its cable, when they announced that the informational press bulletin was the hoax of an activist group. But, for many, it all feels like a big deception.

In the meanwhile, multinational U.S. enterprises, like General Electric, which employ one fifth of the labor force of the nation, have been hiring more workers overseas, while cutting their payrolls in the U.S., the Wall Street Journal reported. During the first ten years of this century, they reduced their payrolls by 2.9 million jobs, while they were contracting for 2.4 million jobs in foreign countries, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce.

And who did Obama appoint to his advisory team on economic recovery and job creation? The Chief Executive Officer of General Electric, Jeffrey Immelt.

The feeling is that little is changing; the hope of progressives, youth, migrants, environmentalists, defenders of civil rights, that they had the possibility of change with Obama, is fading. On the conservative side there is increasing hysteria: we are loosing our country, which continues to be the nutrient for all types of paranoia and conspiracy theories which explain the coming finale of our nation. Such level has been reached, that even serious conservatives are trying to break myths, like the one that Obama is a foreigner (25 % continues believing that, according a CBS poll).

And every week there are reminders of the dangerous combination of ultra-right-wing hysteria with easily obtained guns and legally accessible to anyone, – like the assassination attempt of a federal representative in Arizona a few months back –, with the fact that since then thousands more have died because of firearms, or that this week, in a kindergarten in Houston a six year old child took a gun to his class, he dropped it during lunch, an he and two students were wounded, reported AP.

Before such panorama, the people who supported Obama, together with the unemployed philosophers ask, where is the change? In the Hotel St. Regis in San Francisco this week, ten donors who had supported the president came to a fund-raiser for the re-election campaign. There, they asked if they could sing him a song, reported the Washington Post. The song was a protest for the treatment received by soldier Bradley Manning, accused of leaking military and diplomatic documents to Wikileaks. The word were: “We paid our quota, where is our change?”

JG: Wake up America! There is no difference between Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden and Rahm Emanuel on the Democratic side and John Bohner, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Mitt Romney and the Hucklebee preacher on the Republican side. It is one big party: The Capitalist Party, with two branches to make the American sheepeople believe that they live in a “democracy.” Capitalism = the exploitation of man by man. They aim and mean to screw you, not help you. Capitalism in the U.S. is to help the super-rich, the banks and Wall Street and not the working class. They won't use Vaseline when they screw you. When will you learn?

EE.UU.: Mal humor, hartazgo e ira

De la prensa extranjera

David Brook

Elizardo 'El Camájan' Sánchez, mercenary to the Yankee Imperialists

Elizardo 'El Camájan' Sanchez is one of the many mercenaries that the Yankee imperialists employ inside Cuba. He is a frequent visitor to the United States Interests Section (USIS) to collect the cash that the Americanos pay him.

In Cuba, the mercenaries which the U.S. employs inside the island and which they euphemistically call “dissidents” are nothing but a buch of vive bien who do not like to work and prefer to receive their welfare checks from USIS. Other examples of USIS employed mercenaries are Yoani Sánchez, Darsi Ferrer, Oscar Elias Biscet, Osvaldo Payá and Martha Beatriz Roque, whom I choose to call 'Los Chulos del Imperio.'

Here is a video (in Spanish) from Cuba Información TV where 'El Camaján' sings his praises of Yankee democracy, his paymaster. Democracy is a polite word for capitalism, the biggest corrupt and greed-based economic and political system ever invented by man.

Elizardo: The Cuban people know who you serve and work for.

U.N. General Assembly will create a new Palestinian nation

With the unity agreement announced this week between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the world is moving closer and closer to the creation, by a vote in the U.N General Assembly, of a new and sovereign Palestinian nation.

You can be sure that right wing Israeli Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will try to do everything to torpedo the birth of a new independent nation in the Middle East. The U.S. imperialists and their N.A.T.O. "associates" do not have veto power in the General Assembly.

Progressive nations throughout the world will overwhelmingly recognize the new nation of Palestine.

LONG LIVE PALESTINE!

Granma

This province of Cuba takes its name from the yacht, Granma, which landed near its southwestern tip bearing Castro, Raul, Camilo, Che, and their supporters. The landing took place on December 2nd, 1956.

The majestic mountains of the Sierra Maestra, main mountain range in Cuba, the intense blue Caribbean Sea and the fertile plains bathed by the Cauto River make of Granma a fan of contrasts. This along with its more than 40 archaeological sites, its more than 60 km of explorable caves and caverns and many other aspects of this region made UNESCO declare the Desembarco del Granma National Park (Granma Landing National Park) a World Heritage Site.

At the lower left corner of this province map you can see the Playa Las Coloradas, where the Cuban revolutionaries of the 26 of July Movement landed to start the last phase of the Cuban Revolution which would free the island from the domination of the Yankee imperialists and their associates/partners in the American Mafia.

Ukrainian Authorities Thank Cuba for Help to Victims of Chernobyl Accident

Radio Cadena Agramonte

Havana, Cuba, Apr 27.- On the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe, Ukrainian authorities acknowledged once again the Cuban assistance in overcoming the consequences of the nuclear accident and the humanitarian help to the victims.

In a meeting marking the event in Kiev, Vice First Minister Serguei Tigipko handed certificates of acknowledgement to Cuban health specialists involved in the island’s Chernobyl Children medical program, according to a report by the Cuban National News.

Tigipko said Cuba is the only country that has provided medical assistance to Chernobyl victims for 21 years. He said a total of 25,000 people suffering from different diseases as a result of the nuclear radiations have benefited from the Cuban program, of them 21,340 children.

Director of the medical program in Havana, Julio Medina de Armas, said a nursing home for victims of the accident was opened in Ukraine, financed by the government of the European country, in 1998 in which Cuban doctors are working as advisors.

On December 2010, Ukrainian foreign minister Konstantin Ivanovich Grishenko visited Cuba and thanked Fidel and Raul Castro for the help of the island to the victims of the atomic accident. (ACN).

There is always one in every crowd

There are human beings who never seem to understand the concept of "Live and Let Live." To them, simple human rights like freedom of expression is something to be fought and extinguished.

Here is my story:

On Tuesday evening, I made my usual visit to the excellent Lakeland Chess Club for some friendly games. I stopped at a nearby drive-in for a quick bite before driving to the Lutheran Church where the meetings take place.

I have two bumper stickers in my car. One states "LET CUBA LIVE - LIFT THE BLOCKADE." The other bumper sticker proclaims: "WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER.

An intolerant person, (most likely an anti-Cuba gusano), left a very nasty note on my car's wiper blade -- written on a paper napkin -- full of obscenities directed toward me and the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Comrade Fidel Castro.

You will find many people like this in Florida. They are full of hate towards Cuba and Cuban socialists like myself. I understand their hatred. They were kicked out of Cuba on January First, 1959. They do not understand revolutions when the people they support end up on the losing side.

They are un-intelligent and un-educated. All they can come up with are obscenities and idiotic phrases like "If you love Castro so much, why don't you go back to Cuba?"

My answer is: if the Yankee imperialist government of the United States were not to confiscate my retirement pension, I would, YOU DUMMY!

They sometimes come into this blog to attempt to publish their hate and their idiocies. I hit the "delete" button faster than they can say "Long Live Luis Posada Carriles."

People like this will never amount to much in life.

Message from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba

TO: PARTIES, POLITICAL FORCES AND SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN THE WORLD, AND FRIENDS OF THE CUBAN REVOLUTION.

From April 16-19, 2011, coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory and the Proclamation of the Socialist Character of the Cuban Revolution, the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba was held in Havana.

More than one thousand Delegates and national guests, who represented around 800 thousand party members organized in 61 thousand party cells in different sector of the whole Cuban society, participated at this event.

The Main Report, presented by the Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, is a deeply self-critical and timely analysis of the present crucial circumstances of the historical process of the construction of Socialism in Cuba. In this context, it defines essential aspects that support the need to carry on the socio-economic transformations aimed at updating the economic model and strengthening the economic and social structures that warrantee to move forward in the construction of the new socialist society. In essence, the Main Report to the Congress was aimed at identifying the cardinal problems faced by the country and how to solve them.

The discussion on the main topics analyzed, ratified the consistent implementation of the creative thinking of the founder of the Party, historical leader and Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

On the other hand, it was reaffirmed that the ongoing updating of our process was essentially conceived on the basis of the concrete historical and cultural peculiarities of Cuba –subjected to a tight economic, commercial and financial blockade for almost 50 years- and not on the basis of mechanically copying similar experiences in other part of the world.

The approval of the Economic and Social Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution was preceded by a wide process of popular debate on its draft-project that lasted for five months, in which more than eight million people (some of them more than once) participated. More than three million people took part in the debate with 781,644 opinions, thus warranting that the participants could speak freely to express their dissatisfactions and differences.

All proposals made by the people were analyzed. The 87.4% of the statements made at these debates were taken into consideration, while in the remaining 12.6% it was decided to continue studying the possible implementation of some of them and not to consider others for the time being.

The validity of the predominance of the socialist state ownership over the means of production, and planning, an essential pillar of the national economy, was ratified by the majority of the people. It was reaffirmed the unflinching willingness of the State to preserve the social achievements accomplished as a result of the revolutionary work, an expression of the humanist spirit of our social project, and to keep the free of charge access of all citizens to education, public health, mass practice of sports and culture.

This process, which in fact was a referendum of the whole people and as result of which 68% of the original proposed Guidelines were modified, confirmed the confidence and unity of the overwhelming majority of the Cubans around the Communist Party and the Revolution, that same Revolution that will never leave anyone alone. Once again the validity of comrade Fidel’s thinking was demonstrated: “… The strength of the Party lies in its close and permanent link with the masses…”

Undoubtedly, it was a democratic and transparent process, with a wide popular participation, based on the principle that, it has to be the people, with the Party in front, which determine the country’s destiny.

Now there is a need of a period of several years to implement, in a gradual way and without hurry, the measures included in the New Economic and Social Model of the country.

The delegates took into consideration the wish of comrade Fidel Castro Ruz of not being included in the candidature and his decision to continue being “a party member, a soldier of the ideas.”

A Central Committee, with 115 members (half of them as new members), was elected, with a female representation of 41.7%. A Political Bureau, made up of 15 members, and a Central Committee Secretariat were also elected. This election was not the result of improvisation, but a policy aimed at gradually incorporating a real representation of our people and, above all, of the new generation of Cubans that can warrantee, together with the Historical Generation, the continuity of Socialism in Cuba.

The Congress approved the Call to the National Conference of the Party to be held on January 28th 2012. This meeting will be a continuity of the VI Congress of the Party.

Its main objective will be to strengthen the Party, based on the principle that the Communist Party of Cuba leads and controls, but it does not manage. Therefore, the Conference should take the necessary decisions to adjust the Statutes, the internal norms, the structure and the working styles and methods to the present historical circumstances in the country, as well as to give special attention to the training and development of leading cadres as a priority and strategic aspect for the whole Party, a determinant for the future of the Revolution.

The Conference should also discuss and approve the main definitions related to the foreign policy and international relations of the Party. In this regard, the Congress reiterated Cuba’s unflinching position to defend the universal principles of sovereignty, independence, self-determination, non-use of force in the solution of conflicts and non-interference in the domestic affairs of other countries.

It was ratified the willingness to discuss any issue of common interest with the U.S. Government, on the basis of mutual acknowledgment and respect, and without condition.

It was approved the Resolution on the Improvement of People’s Power Organs, the Electoral System and the Political-Administrative Division.

Friends in the world:

The 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba confirmed that for party members and patriots, nation, independence and Socialism are indissolubly linked and, thus, to defend them is, and will always be, the main banner of the Cuban revolutionary process.

In the closing speech delivered by the newly elected First Secretary, Raúl Castro Ruz, he reiterated the militant solidarity of Cubans with the brotherly countries of the Third World and the support to Communist Parties and other progressive forces all over the world which struggle tirelessly for a better world.

We avail ourselves of this opportunity to thank parties, social movements, personalities and friends for the messages of encouragement and solidarity that we have received during this great event.

ALIPAC is the top xenophobic group in the U.S. today

The Nazis hated Jews, and unleashed upon humanity the Holocaust. Today, in the United States of America we have the top XXI century hate group called Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committe (ALIPAC).

Their hatred for foreigners who are not blond with blue eyes is very similar to Hitler's hate agenda. They try to get into office Democrats and Republicans who are as xenophobic as ALIPAC. They are on the far extreme right of the political spectrum. They are capitalist cockroaches that must be SMASHED.

Barack Obama has emptied the words 'hope' and 'change' of any meaning

Obama's Real Constituency

BARACK OBAMA is back on the campaign trail. But this is not 2008. This time around, he will need a different set of slogans. "Hope" and "change" have effectively been emptied of any content over the last three years.

The Democratic Party's real constituency is the American rich. And it's not just that the Democrats are funded by the rich. At the highest echelons of the party, they are the rich. The apparent "weakness" of the Democrats in the face of Republican attacks is not "spinelessness" or lack of negotiating savvy, but a logical consequence of the reality that they serve the interests of the wealthy, while struggling to maintain the appearance of doing the opposite.

Havana, Cuba, Apr 25.- The NY Labor Chorus performed on Saturday at Havana´s John Lennon Park with the presence of the President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon.

The former union leaders sang the movement´s traditional songs like “There is Power in the Union”, “Do You Hear the People Sing”, and “Imagine”.

They were accompanied by the members of the Mariana Gontich Singing Academy.

Before the performance the head of the NY Labor Chorus, Barbara Bailey told the audience that they were in Cuba to build a bridge of friendship between both peoples. She added that its time to change the US policy towards Cuba.

At the end of the performance the members of the NY Labor Chorus and Ricardo Alarcon surrounded the John Lennon statue sitting on a bench in the park and sang songs like “We Shall Overcome”.

Also attending the performance were Culture Minister, Abel Prieto; First Vice President of the Cuban Friendship Institute, ICAP, Enrique Roman; Cuban singer/songwriter Silvio Rodriguez, members of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five among other guests.

The NY Labor Chorus is made up of former union leaders that arrived to the island last Sunday. They also carried out an intense program which also included performances in Matanzas, Pinar del Rio and at the St. Francisco de Asis Basilica in Old Havana accompanied by the Cuban National Chorus directed by Digna Guerra. U.S. working class to remember Haymarket martyrs

People's World

April 22, 2011

CHICAGO (PAI) - It's just one word in labor history with a lot of associations: Haymarket.

It's the chaos on a square on Chicago's near West Side: During a meeting on May 4, 1886 to campaign for an 8-hour day, and to protest police brutality against strikers, an unknown person threw a bomb as the crowd of 2,500 was breaking up due to a rainstorm. Then 176 police, with repeating rifles, charged against 200 workers.

Four workers and seven police were killed, and the resulting arrest and skewed trial of eight labor activists - dubbed "anarchists" by the frenzied [yellow] popular press - set off a mass hysteria against unions that persisted for years, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Eight workers' advocates were convicted. Seven got death sentences. Three were hanged. Another had his head blown off by a dynamite cap, in his cell, on the morning of the execution. A courageous Illinois Governor, John Peter Altgeld, pardoned the others seven years later. After reading the trial transcript and the surrounding commentaries, Altgeld denounced the proceedings as a travesty of justice, and worse.

Altgeld issued the pardons on the day - one source says at the site - of the dedication of the monument to the Haymarket martyrs in Waldheim Cemetery, in forest Park, just west of Chicago.

Now, 125 years later, on May 1, the cemetery, not the square, will be jammed: Workers and their allies plan a mass commemoration of the Haymarket martyrs and re-dedication of the monument in the cemetery, now officially known as Forest Home.

The Illinois Labor History Society, owner of the deed to the monument - the only cemetery monument cited as a National Historic Landmark - calls it "the statue of liberty for workers around the world.

"As a symbol of international labor solidarity, come together to honor our history and remember the only way to stop the worldwide assault on working people by corporate greed is to stand together," the society says.

Labor groups planning the re-dedication are not only focusing on the past, however. AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler will deliver the keynote address at the re-dedication, discussing labor's struggles now.

The event is sponsored by the Illinois Labor History Society, in conjunction with the Chicago Federation of Labor and the Illinois AFL-CIO.

The sign should read: "Honor bound to defend Yankee Imperialism"

Capitalism can not be reformed. It is an inherently evil system.

After a great Easter dinner yesterday, members of my family -- I don't even know how or why -- got into a very heated discussion about American capitalism. Those who do not even know that they are being exploited on a daily basis, and who have never read the historical and scientific works of Karl Marx were saying that "A well regulated capitalist system can be reformed!"

How wrong they are! Only the working class adds value to a product. The capitalist ruling class are not able to do that, because they are basically a parasitic class, stealing from the workers the surplus value that they add to a product with their labor.

Only smart countries, like Russia, China, Vietnam and Cuba have been able to totally smash the capitalist cockroaches. Capitalist reactionaries are still very strong throughout the world.

In the U.S., the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are parasitic members of the capitalist class, while socialist, communists and progressives are very divided and keep on voting for the capitalist scum (Dems and Reps) that are leading and bleeding this country into eventual bankruptcy.

Pinar del Rio evens championship series

The Vegueros of Pinar del Rio defeated yesterday the Tigres of Ciego de Avila, by the score of 4-3, to even the 50th Championship Series finals to one win apiece.

This is going to be a classic championship series, as the two team are very evenly balanced. Either one could become the new champion of Cuban baseball.

Pakistani website reports that the US has been kicked out of Shamsi Air Base

Shamsi Air Base has been closed for U.S. use

www.siasat.pk

Pakistan Army sources have confirmed that the airfield was free from the American forces.

Pakistan has stopped all US operations from the Shamsi Air Base in Balochistan, an airport which was given to American forces for use after 9/11 and drone attacks were launched from the base on targets in the tribal areas, military sources have confirmed. It was also used extensively in 2001 when thousands of US sorties took off to bomb Afghanistan a few weeks after the 9/11 attack in New York.

As the relations between Islamabad and Washington have strained due to latter’s mounting interference and repeated breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty, the US Embassy spokesman, Alberto Rodriguez, confirmed that there are no US forces at the Shamsi Air Base in Balochistan.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesperson, when approached about his version on the vacation of US forces and the deadly drones from Shamsi airfield, explained that the airfield does not belong to the PAF while the Pakistan Army sources confirmed that the airfield was free from the American forces.

No one was prepared to share with The News the dates or the time period when the Shamsi airfield was vacated by the Americans although the sources insist that it is a recent development.

Almost a year back, Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtar spoke on the topic of the Shamsi Air Base confirming that it was being used by American forces for logistical purposes but, he added, the government was not satisfied with payments for the use of the facility.

Mukhtar, however, did not go into the nature of airfield’s use by the American forces. Prior to Shamsi, Pakistan had also got vacated from the US forces the Jacobabad Air Base and Pasni, which were used for its operations in Afghanistan.

The US has been using the Shamsi Air Base in Balochistan province to station unmanned Predator drones that have been used to attack terrorist targets inside Pakistan’s tribal areas. Shamsi airfield, also called Bandari, is a small airfield and air station located about 200 miles southwest of Quetta near the town of Washki.

In 2009, media reports revealed that the airfield was used by the United States Central Intelligence Agency as a base for Predator drone attacks on so-called militants in Pakistan’s tribal areas but ended up killing several hundreds innocent people. On January 9, 2002 a US Marine Corps KC-130 aircraft reportedly crashed on approach to Shamsi. All seven crew members were killed in the crash.

In February 2009, The Times of London had announced that it had obtained Google images from 2006 which showed Predator aircraft parked outside a hangar at the end of the runway of the Shamsi airfield. Before that, a US Senator Dianne Feinstein said that the CIA was basing its drone aircraft in Pakistan. The US company Blackwater was also reported to have a presence there, hired by the government to arm the drones with missiles.

It was General Musharraf who had permitted the US to use its airbases not only to attack Afghanistan but also to launch drone attacks on the people of Pakistan in the name of the so-called war on terror. The present regime also continued with Musharraf’s policies and allowed much larger number of drone attacks than before.

WikiLeaks had revealed that Prime Minister Gilani had endorsed the drones’ policy. Gilani was reported to have even said to the US officials that his government would raise hue and cry over these drone attacks for the sake of countering the public pressure.

However, of late and after the Raymond Davis episode, things became extremely tense between Washington and Islamabad with the CIA insisting to carry on with its operations, including the drone attacks inside Pakistan, while the ISI is adamant to restricting the Americans from crossing the red-line.

The Times of India has also confirmed the report.

Vladimir Lenin: 141 years and still going strong

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (22 April 1870 – 21 January 1924), was a Russian Marxist revolutionary, author, lawyer, economic theorist, political philosopher, creator of the Soviet Communist Party, leader of the 1917 October Revolution, and founder of the USSR. As head of the Bolsheviks (1917–1924) he led the Red Army to victory in the Russian Civil War, before establishing the world's first officially socialist state. As a theorist, his extensive theoretical and philosophical contributions to Marxism produced Leninism. (Wikipedia)

Obama administration decides to give some more money to its mercenaries inside Cuba

The dynamic duo called Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have decided to give some more cash to the mercenary group it directs inside Cuba, The Ladies to the Green, euphemistically called Ladies in White by the imperialist press.

The extra cash comes as an "award" for their work defending "human rights" inside Cuba. Those evil Cuban commies keep murdering human rights activists inside the island.

This is the same way that the empire uses to pay its favorite "Blogger of the Empire" a.k.a. Yoani Sanchez.

The imperialist hate Cuba, and anything that is associated with the words Communist or Socialist.

They must be very pissed-off about the very successful VI Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, where Fidel Castro was received to huge applause of the assembled congress delegates.

You can expect the gusanos of Miami's Babalu Blog and the feminazis of HuffPo to give a lot of coverage to this very important "award."

For once in a lifetime I agree with an opinion piece of the Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal published today an opinion piece by Daniel Henninger titled "Obama's Likability Gap." I don't particularly care about the WSJ. They are reactionary and fanatically pro-capitalism. It is their religion.

The subtitle states that Obama today is 'different than the 2008 candidate.'

Americans supported him in 2008 because they desperately wanted change from the disastrous George W. Bush presidency. Be careful with what you wish or hope. It may be worse.

Henninger goes on to describe the Obama of 2008 and 2011 as follow:

"Obama.2008 was engaging, patient, open, optimistic and a self-identified conciliator."

"Obama.2011 has been something else—testy, petulant, impatient, arrogant and increasingly a divider."

In three years we have seen the real Barack Obama, and it is a sorry sight. Its like Jekyll and Hyde.

With the exception of the Health Care Reform Law, people no longer support him. On the Cuba issue he has been a disaster and a 'me too' to continuing the policies of Dubbya. Same old crap. No change.

But the GOP may still save him by nominating someone who is totally unqualified like Sarah Palin, or an ideologue like Newt Gingrich.

He lost my vote for 2012 as soon as I saw that the 'change you can believe in' was merely an empty campaign slogan.

We need someone that will present a very clear difference from the disaster that Barack H. Obama has been.

Chinese President Hu Jintao Congratulates Fidel Castro

Havana, Cuba, Apr 21.- The President of China and General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Hu Jintao, sent a message to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, congratulating him on the occasion of the conclusion of the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) last Tuesday.

“On the occasion of the successful conclusion of the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party, on my behalf and on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, I want to express my sincere respect and the most cordial greetings,” reads the message published on Thursday by Granma newspaper.

Jintao notes that Fidel has safeguarded Cuba’s national sovereignty and dignity and has remained in the path of Socialism, which has earned him the respect and support of the Cuban people and of many nations around the world.

“You are an illustrious revolutionary, ideologist, strategist, and statesman,” adds the Chinese leader, who highlights the close ties between Cuba and China, which began 51 years ago.

“You have always promoted Cuban-Chinese friendship and you have always paid close attention to the process of development of China. You have also given us fraternal assistance and support with important contributions to the steady development of friendship and cooperation between both Parties and countries,” the message notes.

“I’m convinced that, under the leadership of comrade Raul Castro Ruz, the Cuban Revolution and Socialism will undoubtedly attain more victories. We will continue contributing to Cuba’s socio-economic development as much as we can and we will continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both Parties and countries,” the note states. One more missed opportunity by Barack Obama

"Sadly, the Obama administration is once again giving more thought to Cuban voters in the critically important state of Florida than to future generations of Cubans seeking to emulate our system of economics."

That was the key point at the end of a good article titled Will The US Be Last in Line in Building a New Cuba?

It is indeed very sad. Here we have an African-American occupying the White House who promised us 'change you can believe in'. Instead he has continued the Cuba embargo/blockade and offered us timid measures. He has even refused to permit Irish American musicians to attend the Celtic Festival in Cuba. The guy is totally fanatical and unworthy of anyone's trust.

Perhaps it will take a Republican administration to have truly pragmatic and friendly relations with Cuba. It was a Republican president who instituted visionary policies toward the People's Republic of China. Barack Obama is not up to the job. He is more interested in the votes of the South Florida right wingers than having the correct policy toward our Caribbean neighbor.

I dare to predict that Barack Obama will lose Florida in 2012, or like we Cuban's are fond of saying: "le salió el tiro por la culata." (it backfired on him.)

Dodgers: how capitalism destroyed a great team

MLB commissioner Bud Selig announced he will appoint a representative to oversee the "business and the day-to-day operations of the Club."

Selig claims he made the move "because of my deep concerns regarding the finances and operations of the Dodgers."

The bombshell comes in the wake of a report that Frank McCourt arranged a $30 million loan from FOX -- the team's television partner.

Source: www.tmz.com

JG: Like U.S.A., the Dodgers are broke. In the 1940's people lovingly called the team "Them Bums." Now they have a real bum as a TV partner. Sign of the times.

Cantemos 'La Internacional" con Fidel y Raul

Letra de La Internacional

Arriba los pobres del mundo
En pie los esclavos sin pan
y gritemos todos unidos:
¡Viva la Internacional!

Removamos todas las trabas
que oprimen el proletario,
cambiemos al mundo de base
hundiendo al imperio burgués.

Agrupémonos todos
en la lucha final.
Y se alcen los pueblos
por la Internacional.

Agrupémonos todos
en la lucha final.
Y se alcen los pueblos ¡con valor!
por la Internacional.

El día que el triunfo alcancemos
ni esclavos ni dueños habrá,
los odios que al mundo envenenan
al punto se extinguirán.

El hombre del hombre es hermano
derechos iguales tendrán
la Tierra será el paraíso,
patria de la Humanidad

Agrupémonos todos
en la lucha final.
Y se alcen los pueblos
por la Internacional.

Agrupémonos todos
en la lucha final.
Y se alcen los pueblos ¡con valor!
por la Internacional.

Cuba does not exist to please others

Very few governments in our planet are ruled by people who put into practice the humanistic axiom of “People Helping People.” Cuba, China, Vietnam, Laos, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and maybe others that I forget are truly making a real effort to help humanity. Most of the world is ruled by Capitalism, an evil system that ultimately may destroy Mother Earth.

Cuba has been reviled by the capitalist press and other individuals who think that he Pearl of the Antilles exists solely to please them. Many have left the island because they think they know it all, and come to live in a nation that only knows exploitation, greed, drugs, rampant crime and many other unspeakable vices.

You are doing WELL Cuba! Keep traveling the road that you are currently walking in. Continue making efforts to improve your system. Continue to give the world gifts like “Operation Miracle.” Reforming your system does not mean going back to evil Capitalism. It mean perfecting it.

Long live the VI Congress of the Partido Comunista de Cuba, the vanguard of Cubans who live in the island. Eternal glory to the Cuban nation!

The biggest truth I heard today

Raul Castro: “I assume my post to defend, preserve and continue perfecting socialism, and never permit the return of capitalism.”

Elegía de los zapaticos blancos

Vengo de allá de la ciénaga,
del redimido pantano.
Traigo un manojo de anécdotas
profundas, que se me entraron
por el tronco de la sangre
hasta la raíz del llanto.

Oídme la historia triste
de los zapaticos blancos...
Nemesia -flor carbonera-
creció con los pies descalzos.
¡Hasta rompía las piedras
con las piedras de sus callos!

Pero siempre tuvo el sueño
de unos zapaticos blancos.

Ya los creía imposibles.
¡Los veía tan lejanos!
Como aquel lucero azul
que en el crepúsculo vago
abría su flor celeste
sobre el dolor del pantano.

Un día, llegó a la ciénaga
algo nuevo, inesperado,
algo que llevó la luz
a los viejos bosques náufragos.

Era la Revolución,
era el sol de Fidel Castro,
era el camino triunfante
sobre el infierno de fango.
Eran las cooperativas
del carbón y del pescado.

Un asombro de monedas
en las carboneras manos,
en las manos pescadoras,
en todas, todas las manos.
Alba de letras y números
Sobre el carbón despuntando.

Una mañana...¡Qué gloria!
Nemesia salió cantando.
Llevaba en sus pies el triunfo
de sus zapaticos blancos.
Era la blanca derrota
de un pretérito descalzo.

¡Qué linda estaba el domingo
Nemesia con sus zapatos!
Pero el lunes... ¡despertó
bajo cien truenos de espanto!

Sobre su casa guajira
volaban furiosos pájaros.
Eran los aviones yanquis,
eran buitres mercenarios.

Nemesia vio caer muerta
a su madre. Vio
sangrando a sus hermanitos.
Vio un huracán de disparos
agujereando los lirios
de sus zapaticos blancos.

Gritaba trágicamente:
¡Malditos los mercenarios!
¡Ay, mis hermanos! ¡Ay, madre!
¡Ay, mis zapaticos blancos!

Acaso el monstruo se dijo:
Si las madres están dando
hijos libres y valientes,
que mueran bajo el espanto
de mis bombas. ¡Quién ha visto
carboneros con zapatos!

Pero Nemesia no llora.
Sabe que los milicianos
rompieron a los traidores
que a su madre asesinaron.

Sabe que nada en el mundo-
-ni yanquis ni mercenarios-
apagarán en la patria
este sol que está brillando,
para que todas las niñas
¡tengan zapaticos blancos!

The capitalist parties are destroying the U.S.

Is the Green Party responsible for the economic and debt crisis in the United States? NO!

Is the Libertarian Party responsible for the economic and debt crisis in the United States? NO!

Is the Socialist Party responsible for the economic and debt crisis in the United States? NO!

Is the Communist Party responsible for the economic and debt crisis in the United States? NO!

Who governs the United States?

The Democratic and the Republican Parties (capitalists).

They are responsible for the current state of affairs. They defend the never ending greed of the super rich, the banks, the big corporations and Wall Street.

Those are the parties and institutions who are responsible for totally destroying a once-great country.

SHAME ON THEM!

End the Bush and Obama wars in foreign countries.

TAX THE RICH AND THE CORPORATIONS!

The Real Tax Cheats

SocialistWorker.Org

It's not so much that corporations and the wealthy are breaking the tax rules, it's that the rules were written with their interests in mind.

April 18, 2011

"WHEN GOVERNMENTS set tax rates, they are making decisions about who will prosper and by how much," argued David Cay Johnston in his groundbreaking book Perfectly Legal: The Secret Campaign to Rig Our Tax System to Benefit the Super Rich--and Cheat Everybody Else. Johnston, a former New York Times tax reporter, described the class character of the U.S. tax code as follows:

Congress lets business owners, investors and landlords play by one set of rules, which are filled with opportunities to hide income, fabricate deductions and reduce taxes. Congress requires wage earners to operate under another, much harsher set of rules in which every dollar of income from a job, a savings account or a stock dividend is reported to the government, and taxes are withheld from each paycheck to make sure wage earners pay in full.

As the April 7 Bloomberg BusinessWeek cover story noted bluntly, "The more you make, the less you pay" in U.S. taxes. The story offers "A Billionaire's Guide to Paying No Taxes," providing a list of "11 shelters, dodges and rolls--all perfectly legal--used by America's wealthiest people."

These tax breaks are not available to those who file their taxes on Turbotax.com, much less to those who fill out their 1040 short forms themselves, but only to members of the corporate class, who employ an army of tax lawyers and lobbyists to exploit each and every loophole in the 67,000 pages that make up the U.S. tax code.

Tax deductions such as "accelerated depreciation" (write off the cost of your machinery and equipment years before it actually wears out!) and "deferred tax" (why pay taxes now when you can postpone them for a decade or two?) might be as incomprehensible as they are unavailable to the average taxpayer, but they are gold mines for the extremely wealthy.

The offshore tax haven is the biggest tax loophole of all. According to U.S. PIRG, the IRS itself estimates that individuals and corporations currently have $5 trillion stowed away in offshore low-tax havens.

And tax havens can offer other opportunities for corporations to yet further lower corporate tax rates. As SmartMoney.com described in 2008, "There are so many ways to play the game...merely make sure that U.S. operations incur tax-deductible interest payments by borrowing money from cash-rich subsidiaries overseas. This is what's known in industry parlance as 'income-shifting.' It passes the time while one waits for the next U.S. tax holiday on repatriated overseas profits."

If you own a yacht, you can claim it as a second home, allowing you to deduct the interest paid on your loan from your taxes, as long as you say you spent a total of 14 nights on it. As the Seattle Post-Intelligencer remarked about the yacht deduction in 2004, "The Internal Revenue Service rarely bats an eye at questionable cases, nor does it keep track of the lost revenues," which it estimated could approach $1 billion annually.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

NOT SO at the other end of the income spectrum. The lower you are on the income ladder, the higher your chance of an IRS audit--especially if you are a member of the working poor who claims an Earned Income Tax Credit, which automatically flags you for suspicion. In 2001, those who applied for this credit were eight times more likely to be audited than those with incomes of $100,000 or more.

Thus, while working-class taxpayers sweat out each tax season, tax day is a cause for great rejoicing among the tax delinquents at the top of the financial heap. And 2011 promises to be the best in many decades. As the aforementioned article notes:

For the well-off, this could be the best tax day since the early 1930s...For the 400 U.S. taxpayers with the highest adjusted gross income, the effective federal income tax rate--what they actually pay--fell from almost 30 percent in 1995 to just under 17 percent in 2007, according to the IRS...It may seem too fantastic to be true, but the top 400 end up paying a lower rate than the next 1,399,600 or so.

Indeed, as mega-billionaire Warren Buffett remarked while speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Sen. Hillary Clinton in 2007, "The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter."

On March 24, the New York Times exposed the fact that, although corporate giant General Electric posted $14.2 billion in profits last year, it not only paid zero taxes but actually claimed $3.2 billion in tax credits--as if GE's tax dodging is a shocking exception to corporate practice. But GE is merely the leader of the pack. Between 1998 and 2005, 57 percent of U.S. companies paid no federal income taxes for at least one year.

And from 2008 to 2010, according to PayUpNow.org, many of the most profitable U.S. corporations paid 5 percent or less in taxes--including Chevron (under 5 percent), Merck (5 percent), Hewlett-Packard (3 percent), Exxon (2 percent), IBM (2 percent) and Carnival (1 percent).

Citigroup and Bank of America paid no taxes for at least two of the three years. And Boeing, DuPont, Dow Chemical and Verizon all posted tax credits during this three-year period.

PayUpNow.org's research showed that the top 100 corporations paid less than 10 percent of their pre-tax profits in taxes in 2010, using data that is readily available to the public. Yet the mainstream media continues to recycle the same group of tax "experts" who promote the illusion that the vast majority of corporations actually pay the official 35 percent tax rate--while corporate leaders pose as a persecuted minority, forced to keep their trillions overseas due to the U.S. government's punitive tax treatment.

A broad range of corporations and organizations--including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Microsoft, Apple and Cisco--recently came together to form the "WIN America (Investing Here at Home) Campaign," to plead their case. As its website states:

Currently, there is over $1 trillion earned by American businesses trapped overseas. We strongly support corporate tax reform--it is essential to keeping us competitive. But as Washington works on broader reform--likely to be a long process--an essential first step would be to allow these worldwide American businesses the freedom to bring up to $1 trillion in global earnings home to invest it now into our still fragile economy.

Unfortunately, our broken tax system actually penalizes U.S. businesses that want to bring their global earnings to America.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

WHEN IT comes to taxes, money that goes up doesn't come back down. As author Paul Buchheit explained recently on CommonDreams.org, the largest 100 U.S. companies:

with $5.67 trillion in 2010 revenue and almost $600 billion in pre-tax earnings, paid $57 billion, or 9.7 percent, in federal incomes taxes. If these 100 companies had paid the 35 percent tax designated by U.S. tax law, an additional $150 billion would have been collected in federal taxes in just one year. This is approximately equal to the total budget deficits for all 50 states.

Workers--including unemployed workers whose benefits count as "taxable income"--do not merely pay income tax at higher rates than some of the wealthiest corporations. Sales taxes and payroll taxes are also rigged to benefit the rich at the expense of the poor. Politicians of both parties are well aware of this enormous disparity, since together they passed all the laws that make up the grossly unequal U.S. tax code.

Often, these laws masquerade as benevolent gestures, with names such as "The American Jobs Creation Act," passed in 2004. That bill created few jobs, but was laden with corporate tax breaks, including a tax holiday that allowed corporations holding billions of profits in overseas tax havens to bring the money into the U.S., at a tax rate of just 5.25 percent instead of 35 percent. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is now clamoring for another, similar tax holiday from Congress.

To be sure, Democrats somberly talk of the need for "shared sacrifice" while Republicans howl for blood, but both parties have for three decades been part of a common project to shift the tax burden sharply downward.

The highest income tax rate stood at 70 percent in 1980; today, it is half that, at 35 percent--in a downward trajectory throughout that period, whichever party has been dominating Congress or occupying the White House.

Shifting the tax burden from the rich to the poor has been the ugly underbelly of the one-sided class war waged by the corporate class that has successfully slashed working-class living standards and gutted union organization over the last 30 years.

And since the George W. Bush administration, corporations have been feasting on tax breaks. Citizens for Tax Justice compiled a report in 2004, documenting the top 25 tax break recipients of 2001-2003, which not only contains the familiar corporate culprits such as GE and Exxon-Mobil, but also reads like a who's who of the key players in the 2008 financial meltdown: Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase, Wachovia, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Merrill Lynch.

Goldman Sachs did not make it into the top 25 that year, but after receiving $10 billion in taxpayer dollars from the 2008 Wall Street bailout, it paid a tax rate of just 1 percent. In 2010, Bank of America, another key perpetrator of the 2008 financial crisis, claimed a tax credit of almost $1 billion.

"SOCIAL SECURITY is going broke," is one of the most persistent claims of policymakers over the last two decades, as if the coming influx of retiring baby boomers will suck the Social Security trust fund dry, thereby imposing an unfair tax burden on today's workforce.

On the contrary, baby boomers pre-paid for their Social Security benefits, but have since been robbed of them. Soon after Ronald Reagan took office in 1981, the government raised Social Security payroll tax rates, so workers would pay in advance for their own retirement benefits.

In 1970, the maximum Social Security tax was $327. By 2000, it was $4,724, more than 14 times higher. Democrats spearheaded the hike in Social Security taxes and assured their constituents that their money was safely parked in a trust fund where it would continue to earn interest.

Instead, the government looted the fund to pay its day-to-day expenses. As Johnston remarked, "Instead of buying municipal bonds or shares of IBM, the extra Social Security taxes were spent on cruise missiles and salaries of FBI agents and running the Environmental Protection Agency...making up for the taxes that were no longer being paid by the rich because of the 1981 tax cuts."

Social Security payroll taxes are already regressive because all employees, however large or small their wages, pay the same 6.2 percent rate. And Social Security deductions are capped--at $106,800 for 2011--so all those earning more have no more payroll deductions for the year, no matter how high their income reaches, effectively lowering their Social Security tax rate.

Policymakers have increasingly sought to make up lost revenue through a new tax scheme with a public relations twist: "sin taxes." Sales taxes are already a regressive form of taxation, since everyone pays the same rate, whatever their income and whatever their purchase, be it shoes for the kids or $3,000 Armani suits.

But sin taxes allow politicians to seize the moral high ground while punishing those who engage in allegedly unethical behavior--from smoking and drinking alcohol to, more recently, weighing too much--all of which target working-class people disproportionately.

In 2001, the Congressional Budget Office reported that those who quit smoking due to tobacco taxes tend to be from middle- and upper-income brackets. And as the Tax Policy Center pointed out:

In 2008, 34 percent of individuals with incomes between $6,000 and $12,000 said they smoked, compared to only 21 percent of all Americans, according to a Gallup Poll. Also, the 2007 Consumer Expenditures Survey reported that individuals in the lowest income quintile spent 1.7 percent of their after-tax income on alcohol, compared to only 0.6 percent for those in the highest quintile.

The latest sin tax fad is teeming with contempt, and the infamous Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (who exudes contempt) is spearheading the attack. Brewer has proposed a $50 annual tax on Medicaid recipients who smoke, are overweight and/or have chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, claiming that their "unhealthy behavior" costs taxpayers money in additional health care costs.

Arizona Medicaid spokeswoman Monica Coury explained to the Wall Street Journal, "If you want to smoke, go for it. But understand you're going to have to contribute something for the cost of the care of your smoking."

INDEED, CLASS contempt seems to characterize much tax policy in 2011, as governor after governor has combined "corporate tax reform" with draconian cuts in social spending and attacks on public-sector workers.

Once again, Jan Brewer is not to be outdone. While imposing the tax on Medicaid recipients noted above, she has also proposed lowering corporate taxes from 7 to 5 percent. The Georgia legislature is considering legislation to lower its corporate and personal tax rate to 6 percent--making up the shortfall with a tax on groceries.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder successfully ended the state's Earned Income Tax Credit, eliminated a $600 per child tax credit, and gutted education funding by 8 to 10 percent, while slashing the corporate tax rate by 86 percent. And Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker advertises his state's tax policy with a sign reading, "Wisconsin: Open for Business."

Policymakers continue to repeat the same Reagan-era mantra that providing generous corporate tax cuts lead to significant job creation--after three decades of evidence to the contrary. Obama and his Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner still repeat such supply-side economic fallacies.

They opened budget negotiations with Republicans this year having already agreed to further lower the corporate tax rate by at least 5 percent. As Geithner told Congress in February, "We are very serious...in trying to build consensus now on a set of fundamental changes to the corporate tax system that would improve incentives for investment."

In a recent speech, Obama assured his voting base that he will finally end the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans (successfully maintaining a straight face despite the fact that he renewed them in December). He also vowed that, while lowering corporate tax rates, he will also "close the loopholes" that corporations currently exploit.

But history has shown that corporate tax loopholes are a constant feature of the U.S. tax code--like a whack-a-mole game, as soon as one door gets pounded shut, another immediately pops open. Corporations have nothing to fear.

And in an obvious nod to the corporate donors he is already courting for his re-election bid, Obama appointed none other than General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt as chairman of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, even though in 2009 the corporate behemoth--awash in tax breaks--laid off 19,000 of its workers, roughly 6 percent of its workforce.

In so doing, Obama demonstrated his actual class allegiance and his intent to enable the continuation of Corporate America's one-sided class war against workers--when workers have little or nothing left to give.
