Obama Is Smart on Health Care but Wrong on Cuba Policy

I am very happy that President Obama won yesterday an important victory at the Supreme Court. The Health Care Reform Act is constitutional. The government has a right to tax and to require that you buy health insurance. It is no different than the government requirement that you buy automobile insurance. That is smart policy.

But on his Cuba policy (i.e. the continuation of the Cuba blockade/embargo) Obama is plain DUMB.

He continues pandering to the BIG MONEY interests of the Miami fascists.

That is wrong, Mr. President, and I will not vote vote for your re-election in November.

I will cast a protest vote for one of the POTUS candidates of the minor Socialist parties. I will not scratch your back as long as you do not scratch mine.

THE CUBA BLOCKADE/EMBARGO HAS GOT TO GO.

The American people and the whole world demand it!

Denounce Capitalism

Bill Maher: New Rules - Socialism

Barack Obama Doesn't Get It!

He is totally detached from reality.

It was not a gaffe. Capitalist millionaires and billionaires are doing fine. Obama extended the George W. Bush tax cuts for them on December 2010.

Millions of average working-class Americans are suffering severely. Capitalism can no longer provide the needed jobs for our society.

IN NOVEMBER VOTE SOCIALIST!

Capitalist Obama and Romney will keep on giving you more placebos.

An Association that Capitalists Don't Mention in the Current World-Wide Crisis of Capitalism

The International Workingmen's Association (IWA) (1864–1876), sometimes called the First International, was an international organization which aimed at uniting a variety of different left-wing socialist, communist and anarchist political groups and trade union organizations that were based on the working class and class struggle. It was founded in 1864 in a workmen's meeting held in Saint Martin's Hall, London. Its first congress was held in 1866 in Geneva.

In Europe, a period of harsh reaction followed the widespread Revolution of 1848. The next major phase of revolutionary activity began almost twenty years later with the founding of the IWA in 1864. At its peak, the IWA had 5 million members according to the police reports, although the official journal reported 8 million members. (Source: Wikipedia)

The Silly News of Fox News Latino

Published June 26, 2012
Fox News Latino

A convicted Cuban spy who finished his U.S. prison time is again asking a federal judge to allow him to return to Cuba to serve probation.

The attorney for René González says in recent court papers that his client has complied with all probation requirements since his October release from prison.

González served about 13 years for his role in a ring that prosecutors say spied on Cuban exiles and tried to infiltrate military bases and political bases.

González and four others still imprisoned are known as the "Cuban Five" and celebrated as heroes in Cuba. The Castro government says the spies were sent to infiltrate exile groups planning terrorist attacks against Cuba.

JG: This piece of "news" is really funny. Fox says that Rene was trying to infiltrate "political bases." Is that where Obama and Romney keep the millions of dollars that idiots throughout the U.S. send them?  Welcome to Silly Land!

Recently, this "spy" was allowed to return to Cuba, to visit a sick relative.

The case of the Cuban Five is like the blockade/embargo against Cuba that both Obama and Romney support.

It is the HATE, stupid!

Florida judge blocks law targeting firms with Cuba, Syria ties

MIAMI, June 26 | Tue Jun 26, 2012 8:46pm IST

(Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge in Miami has temporarily blocked Florida from enforcing a state law set to go into effect on July 1 barring companies that do business in Cuba or Syria from bidding for state and local government contracts.

U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore granted a preliminary injunction on Monday evening in a lawsuit filed by the South Florida-based subsidiary of Brazilian construction and engineering conglomerate Odebrecht challenging the law.

The Brazilian firm, which has been awarded nearly $4 billion in contracts from Florida state agencies and local governments since 1990, sued the state earlier this month claiming the law violates the U.S. Constitution.

The company argues the federal government, not states, have the authority to enact laws involving foreign policy.

The Florida law would prohibit state and local governments from awarding contracts of $1 million or more to any company that conducts business in Cuba or Syria. Both countries are designated by the United States as state sponsors of terrorism.

Odebrecht USA was expected to be the biggest company impacted by the new law. A separate subsidiary of Odebrecht is involved in a major upgrade to Cuba's Port of Mariel near the capital Havana, and the company has faced criticism from Cuban exiles in Miami.

The law was signed by Florida's Republican Governor Rick Scott in May. It drew strong backing in the state's Republican-controlled legislature, particularly from Cuban-American politicians who argued Florida tax dollars should not be used to support dictatorships.

Scott later came under heavy criticism after acknowledging the law would be difficult to implement without federal approval, but he vowed to defend it against legal challenges.

Odebrecht USA provides construction and engineering services, focusing largely on public infrastructure and transportation services.

Among the contracts the company has won include the American Airlines Arena and a performing arts center in Miami. It is bidding on a proposed $700 million hotel and office complex associated with the Miami airport.

The case is Odebrecht Construction vs Ananth Prasad, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, No. 12-cv-22072-KMM.

Cuba Eradicates Viral Hepatitis B in Children

Cuba has eradicated acute viral hepatitis B in children younger than 15, thanks to immunization campaigns featuring vaccines that provide lifetime protection, state media reported.

No cases of the disease have been reported on the island in the past 23 years in the pediatric age group, with the incidence of the disease reduced by 99.04 percent from 2,194 cases in 1989 to 21 in 2011, all of them involving people older than 30, the official Granma newspaper reported, citing medical specialists.

Cuba has administered the Heberbiovac HB vaccine, which is produced by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, since 1992.

The vaccination campaign was later expanded to students and members of at-risk groups, such as health professionals and dialysis patients, among others, Granma said.

Everyone in Cuba below the age of 31 has been vaccinated against the disease, Granma said.

Hepatitis B is one of the five viruses that have been identified as causing swelling of the liver, a disease that can become chronic if contracted at an early age and can cause blood problems, cirrhosis and cancer.

U.S. Diplomats: Cuba IS NOT Laundering Money

A series of cables from diplomats at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana a few years ago indicates that at the time they found no "direct evidence" of money laundering in Cuba, but said the island has one of the world's "most secretive" banking systems.

Two of the U.S. diplomatic reports, which were made public by WikiLeaks, were replies to State Department queries sent to all U.S. embassies in 2008 and 2009 on how their host governments were handling measures on fighting money laundering and combating financing of terrorism.

Both reports were unclassified, indicating they contained no information considered sensitive by the U.S. diplomatic mission in Havana, called the U.S. Interests Section because the two nations do not have full diplomatic relations.

“The U.S. government does not have any direct evidence of money laundering or terrorist financing activities in Cuba in 2009,” one dispatch said, adding that the Cuban government did not “publicly report any significant arrests, seizures or prosecutions.”

Both cables added that Cuba has “one of the most secretive and non-transparent national banking systems in the world.”

The reports noted that “the national media in Cuba is completely controlled by the state, which permits only laudatory press coverage of itself” and that the government “does not routinely publish or publicize” anti-money laundering or counter-terrorist financing activities.

Questions about Cuba’s banking system and its anti-money laundering controls have come up this week because U.S. prosecutors on Monday charged Oscar Sánchez of Miami in a money-laundering scheme that allegedly sent $31 million in Medicare fraud money to the island. They later added that there was no proof the Cuban government was behind the scheme.

A Foreign Ministry official in Havana, responding to the allegation that Sánchez sent Medicare money to Cuba, said earlier this week that the country has strict controls to avoid money laundering and works closely with banks to detect and deter illegal transactions.

Meanwhile, a third U.S cable from Havana noted that Cuba gave permission in 2009 to serve a subpoena issued by a federal court in Miami on “three Cuban-American brothers” suspected of more than $100 million in Medicare fraud.

The cable did not identify them, but it could be referring to José, Luis and Carlos Benitez, Miami brothers who fled to Cuba to avoid their 2008 indictment on charges of filing $119 million in false Medicare claims.

The subpoena was “directed against personal property (assets), although none of the property identified is in Cuba,” the cable added, without further explanation.

The brothers “were being held in a Cuban prison on unspecified charges,” according to the cable, giving no further details.

Of This And That...

Capitalism has, within itself, the seeds for its own destruction. Feudalism ended. It was replaced by a system that it is even worse. Why? Because human beings are imperfect constructs. We should change the name of our species to Homo Stupidus.

Why is it that people can't see it? Are they more interested in going to their nearest shopping mall and buying overpriced iGadgets? It looks that way right now. Right here in the United States we have endless consumerism. Buy more junk and rent a storage room. We also have a society that does not value finding ways to solve very critical problems. Self-gratification and pompous speeches come first.

In the land of the so-called American Dream we have thousands, if not millions, who turn their lives to drugs and alcohol. They have no dreams. They have nothing, so they try to self-destruct. And the capitalists who sell it to them, laugh all the way to the bank, while they destroy the land in which they live.

The capitalist gurus tell those fools of our society who listen to their pronouncements that The Market will solve everything. All that you have to do is become an entrepreneur, and voilá, everything is solved.

And when everything comes crashing down like it happened with the recent housing bubble, which was created 100% by American capitalism, do they go running to The Market to solve their self-created catastrophe? No, they go running to the taxpayers crying: “Bail me out of my own self-foolishness.”

And very corrupt politicians given the people TARP and other associated acronyms. Nothing gets better because the system is unsustainable. You do not have to have a Ph. D. or be a rocket scientist to see that things are not working very well.

Some economists, Paul Krugman among them, proclaim that we are in a economic depression. Read his latest book. In the county where I live, businesses continue to close. Empty storefronts are everywhere.

I, for one, will keep on reading the works of Karl Marx. What a genius that man was. He dissected the monster, and looked inside its entrails.

The capitalists will keep on trying to sell you the idea that The Market will solve everything. The truth is that only we can solve our problems and capitalism will keep on giving you misery after misery.

Reader's Review: Looking for Fidel, by Oliver Stone

Reader Review:

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful
4.0 out of 5 stars Fidel Not a Bad Guy, September 16, 2011
By

This review is from: Looking for Fidel (Amazon Instant Video)
The start of this video is really boring, with Oliver Stone pressing Fidel Castro on human rights issues, and evaluating him through a wholly American perspective.

But at the end of the movie, which I guess one could call a documentary, Stone loosens up, and actually seems to realize that he is in a foreign country, even though the USA has done its utmost to deny Cubans the god-given right to autonomy.

What I learned from watching the video:

Cubans flee Cuba for Florida for strictly economic reasons.

Fidel can walk the streets of Havana (or anywhere else in Cuba) without a million body guards, bullet-proof plexi-glass, and a cordon of navy seals for protection. U.S. politicians can't.

Of course there is no freedom of speech in Cuba. If there were, the revolution would be doomed, as America is waiting for the first sign of weakness in order to pounce.

Access to health services and education in Cuba is pretty much universal. So what if the Cuban people don't have flat screen TV's, mobile phones, and Gucci handbags. You don't need those in order to survive.

Many Cubans love their leader. We just hear about the ones that don't.

Finally, of the utmost significance. Many of the Cubans interviewed in this movie were single fathers. Now, any country that encourages its people to have smaller families is alright by me.

And probably the best part of the movie is at the end, where Castro and Stone are up on a bluff, overlooking Havana harbor and smiling. Castro points and says, "That's where US warships will come in, should we ever let down our guard," or some such thing. (Not sure exactly what he said, as I was listening to Spanish and reading Korean, as I couldn't hear the English for the simultaneous translation.) And then Castro adds again, "One thing about the Americans that really makes it hard to deal with them is they don't accept anything but unconditional surrender. Complete surrender is all they will accept."

Four stars.

JG: A big applause for Fidel Castro for never having surrendered to Yankee imperialism. He has dignity and the courage of his convictions.  I only hope that Raul will do the same, and doesn't sell out, like Gorbachev did in the now defunct USSR.

Ballet Hispanico takes all-Cuban program to Wolf Trap

Source: Washington Post

If the weather cooperates Tuesday night at Wolf Trap, temperatures will be warm at nightfall, with a waft of a breeze. The curtain will rise, and the spotlight will shine on a not-so-tall but dark and handsome man and a woman wearing a black, backless dress slit up to her thighs. Over the speakers, Buena Vista Social Club will begin strumming guitars and crooning saxophones. The man will light a cigar and pass it to his partner. Slowly, cigar still in hand, they begin to rumba.

The only thing inauthentic about this re-creation of a Havana nightclub scene? That cigar. It was NOT imported from Cuba. Because that would be illegal. But importing the mystique — the music, the dance steps, the sexy ambiance of Old Havana — that is certainly allowed.

JG: One more reason to remind your representatives in Washington, D.C. that the Cuba embargo is a failure and an insult to all Americans. Cuba is not our enemy. Do not patronize Barack Obama and Mitt Romney with your vote in November. They are supporters of the embargo.

Raul Castro Warns Of Consequences Of Climate Change

RIO DE JANEIRO, June 22 (BERNAMA-NNN-PRENSA LATINA) -- Cuban President Raul Castro on Thursday warned that global temperature rise will compromise integrity and physical existence of many countries and island nations, and will produce serious consequences to the Third World.

"Despite the milestone that marked the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, emissions of carbon dioxide increased by 38 percent between 1990 and 2009", he said at the plenary session of the Summit United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio 20.

"Now we are going towards an increase in global temperatures that will risk, first, the integrity and physical existence of many island developing States and produce serious consequences in Africa, Asia and Latin America", he said.

Castro said, a detailed study made during the past five years by Cuban scientific institutions, which coincided with the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, forecast that "in this century, if current trends continue, there will be a gradual and significant elevation of sea level in the Cuban archipelago."

The forecast includes the intensification of extreme meteorologycal events such as tropical cyclones and the increase of the ground water salinisation, said Castro.

"All this will have serious consequences, especially on our coasts, so we have initiated the adoption of appropriate measures, he added.

He indicated that this phenomenon would likewise have strong geographic, demographic and economic implications to the Caribbean islands, which also must face inequities of the international economic system that excluded the smallest and most vulnerable.

In his speech, he also called on nations to seek solutions instead of being selfish and giving explanations because "this time, all of us will pay the consequences of climate change."

"The governments of industrialised countries acting this way should not make the mistake of thinking that they can survive a little longer at our expense," he said.

He stressed that "we are desperate for a major change, and said the only alternative is to build more just societies, and to establish a more equitable international order based on respect for the rights of all."

Castro added that it was necessary to ensure sustainable development of nations, especially in the South, and to use science and technology for saving the planet and human dignity.

Cuba Does Not Need to Build Golf Courses

Capitalists make their fortunes by exploiting the working class. Theft is a synonym for capitalism. Karl Marx's Theory of Surplus Value and Das Kapital may be hard to understand for unintelligent and uneducated people, but it is a reality that can be readily seen by using just plain common sense.

When Raul Castro's government announced that it would allow capitalist entities inside the island to build golf course playgrounds for the super-rich he was sowing the seeds for the destruction of Cuban native socialism and betraying the ideas for which the Cuban revolution was fought. Does he want to become another Mikhail Gorbachev?

Gambling is a capitalist vice. Want to see decadence and criminality? Go to Las Vegas, Nevada and Atlantic City, New Jersey in the United States. Is that going to be Raul's next “reform”?

Do not bring a Trojan Horse inside my beloved island. Please abandon that silly idea, President Raul Castro.

Does Haiti have golf-courses? I don't know. It is better to be poor than to lose all self-respect.

Cuba Should Not Be Surprised by the Recent Actions of Google Against the Island

Google is a 100% capitalist entity. Captitalists hate Cuba. They can never forget that Cuban revolutionaries booted out their favorite "democrat" on January First, 1959.

So why are Cuban government officials so surprised at the actions of this U.S. capitalist corporation? Can they not see the trees in the forest? Get real!

U.S. laws regarding Cuba, i.e. the embargo, are stupid. Capitalist hatred for Cuba is so big that they can not see that the embargo is a failed policy.

U.S. politicians are so un-inteligent that they can not see beyond their noses. Both Obama and Romney support and enforce the failed embargo. No Cuban-born person with self-respect should vote for the pair, unless of course they want to kiss the ass of Yankee imperialism.

My message to Cuba is: forget about Google. There are plenty of alternatives that are just as good or better than Google.

Let the capitalists wallow in their own hatred. Keep on perfecting and building native Cuban socialism. Never surrender. Dignity against $$$$.

Miami Gusano (?) Fraud Scheme

MIAMI | Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:02pm EDT

(Reuters) - A Miami man described as "a financier for fraudsters" has been charged with playing a central role in a money-laundering operation that funneled millions in proceeds from a U.S. healthcare fraud scheme into Cuban banks.

Oscar Sanchez, a Cuban-born U.S. citizen, was arrested by the FBI last week and appeared at a detention hearing in federal court in Miami on Monday.

MIAMI — Just on day after alleging that a South Florida man ran a "vast cash-to-Cuba operation," federal prosecutors said they have no proof that the Castro regime is behind a multi-million-dollar Medicare money-laundering scam.

Something That You Will Never See Barack Obama Do

PARIS — France is now officially a land of the left, and the next parliament is set to prove it with a raft of new taxes on the powerful and increased spending on youth.

The Socialists want to end tax breaks and raise tax rates on profits by banks and oil companies, who bear the brunt of public anger over the financial crises that have hit Europe and the global economy in recent years. The Socialists would lower taxes for small businesses, making them progressively higher as the size of the business grows. They also want banks to separate their retail activities from their speculative activities.

JG: Barack Obama is a faithful servant of BIG CAPITAL, and like Bill and Hillary Clinton, he is also a bona-fide Cuba hater. I will never vote to re-elect him. He has been a total incompetent who is not able to deal effectively with the current economic crisis. Let the Tampa Democratic Party dummies vote for him!

No Support for Barack Obama as Long as he Continues the Cuba Embargo

As long as Barack Obama continues to enforce and support the genocidal Cuba embargo, his support continues to deteriorate.

A poll released last week shows that his support among independent voters has fallen to 38 percent. Those independents who DO NOT support him has now risen to 54%. If independents abandon him, he will lose the election.

It's the Cuba embargo, stupid.

Even PBS news hour criticized him for receiving huge campaign contributions from 32 billionaires.

Now that he is in trouble, he has re-discovered that Hispanics exist. Too little, too late.

I will not vote for Obama or Romney. There are alternatives. Voting IS NOT like going to the race-track to choose a winning horse.

When Obama enforces the Cuba embargo, he denies the island the ability to import very needed drugs to treat very sick children.

Last, but not least, Allan Gross has to serve his full sentence. If Obama and Hillary want him released, an exchange for the Cuban Five should be considered. Gross committed high crimes against Cuba's sovereignty.

Dignity against big money.

Hillary Sends to Congress Low Level Hireling to Spout Anti-Cuba GARBAGE

Hillary Clinton is a woman who has no self-respect. She did not have the fortitude to give Bill a kick in his rear-end when the "Blow Job Heard Around The World" happened.  She still thinks that she is going to be POTUS one day. Unfortunately for her, there are not enough femi-nazis in the U.S., other than those who populate Huff Po.

I knew that Barack Obama's administration was going to be real bad when he pout her at the State Department. She did not disappoint her master.

He and her husband are bona-fide Cuba haters and Obama has been a quick understudy. Bill wanted to bomb Havana in 1996 when the CIA-directed "Brothers to the $$$$" overflew Havana several times. Cuba has to be thankful that it has a government that defends its national sovereignty and independence. The days when a Fulgencio Batista kissed the ass of Uncle Sam every day are long gone. GRACIAS FIDEL!

No more overflights have occurred since the courageous shutdown. They learned their lesson, didn't they?

Recently she sent one of her low level hirelings to Congress to spout the usual anti-Cuba garbage and talking points of the Yankee imperialists. The Miami gusanos must be very happy.

If you are curious about what Hillary's hireling said click here.

Hillary can continue with her hate-agenda. Cuba will continue building and perfecting Socialism. Dog-eat-dog U.S. capitalism will not return to the island.

1,456 Palestinian children shot dead by Israel since 2000

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Coinciding with International Children's Day on 1 June, figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Information show that 1,456 Palestinian children have been shot dead by Israelis since the Aqsa Uprising started in late 2000.

The ministry pointed out that all Palestinian children are still subjected to constant abuse and attacks by Israeli occupation forces and illegal Jewish settlers across the occupied Palestinian territories. Dozens have been arrested by Israel in a campaign of harassment in the occupied West Bank.

Children in Palestine make up 52 per cent of the population. As well as almost 1,500 being killed since 2000, around 5,000 children have been injured and 215 are being held in Israeli prisons; 175 have been arrested since the beginning of 2012.

In 2010, around 1,000 Palestinian children aged between 15-17 were arrested by the Israeli occupation forces, 500 of them in occupied Jerusalem. Most of the charges brought revolved around accusations of "throwing stones" at illegal settlers' vehicles.

The Ministry's statistics also reveal that 65,000 Palestinian children aged between 5 and 14 are involved in some kind of work, paid and unpaid, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

White House Sends Form Letter to Cuba Journal. It Fails to Condemn Miami Terrorist Bombing.

On or around April 28th, 2012, the nation and the world learned about another horrible terrorist bombing. It was not an Al Qaeda attack. It was carried out by native born American terrorists who operate with impunity in the city of Miami, Florida.

Click here to see the original CJ post.

Today, Cuba Journal received a form letter from the White House, which I reproduce later on in this post. It looks like a political campaign letter.

It failed to condemn the terrorist bombing against Airline Brokers in Miami. SHAME!

I was very disappointed that the president chose to look in the opposite direction when acts of this nature happen in our country.

Here is letter that CJ received today:

May 31, 2012

Dear Jorge:

Thank you for sharing your perspective on American foreign policy towards Cuba.  I appreciate hearing from you.

The promotion of democracy and human rights in Cuba is in our national interest and is a key component of our Nation's foreign policy.  Measures that decrease dependency of the Cuban people on the Castro regime and promote contacts between Cuban Americans and their relatives in Cuba are means to encourage positive change in Cuba.

My Administration has taken steps to reach out to the Cuban people.  Cuban Americans should be able to visit and assist loved ones in Cuba, and that is why I have eased restrictions on family visits and remittances.  Cuban-American visitors are our country's best ambassadors for promoting freedom in Cuba.

To increase interaction and the flow of information directly to the Cuban people, I have authorized opening telecommunications links between Cuba and the United States and allowing for the export of donated personal communications devices.  We have also helped the Cuban people by expanding the list of humanitarian items that Americans can send to Cuba, as well as expanding the scope of eligible gift parcel donors and donees.

I believe these initiatives benefit our Nation and help support the Cuban people's desire to determine freely their country's future.  For more information on this and other important policy issues, I encourage you to visit www.WhiteHouse.gov/issues/foreign-policy

Again, thank you for writing.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
