Pete Seeger: Dead at 94

On August 18, 1955, Pete Seeger was subpoenaed to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).

Here is what he told them:

"I am not going to answer any questions as to my association, my philosophical or religious beliefs or my political beliefs, or how I voted in any election, or any of these private affairs. I think these are very improper questions for any American to be asked, especially under such compulsion as this."

He had the courage to defend his convictions. In the above, very polite words, he basically told HUAC: "Go to hell!"

Rest in peace, Pete.

Team Cuba Roster is Announced for the 2014 Caribbean Baseball Series

Cuba Baseball Website Zona de Strike has posted about the baseball players who will represent the Republic of Cuba during the upcoming Serie del Caribe at Margarita Island, Venezuela, on February 1 to 8, 2014.

Team Villa Clara, who are the National Champions of Cuba's 52nd National Baseball Series will represent Cuba, with the addition of six reinforcements.

Here they are:

Team Villa Clara

Catchers (2): Ariel Pestano and  Yulexis La Rosa Águila.

Infielders (6): Yulieski Gourriel Castillo, Ariel Borrero Alfonso, Ramón Lunar Armenteros, Andy Sarduy Escobar, Danel Castro Muñagorri, Yordan Manduley Escalona, Yeniet Pérez Romero, Yandrys Canto Ramírez and José Miguel Fernández Díaz.

Outfielders (6): Alfredo Despaigne Rodríguez, Andy Zamora Farres, Edilse Silva La O, Yuniet Flores Argüelles, Yordanys Linares Pérez and Lázaro Ramírez Espinosa.

Pitchers (11): Freddy Asiel Álvarez Sáez, Yasmany Hernández Romero, Alaín Sánchez Machado, Jonder Martínez Martínez, Robelio Carrillo Carvajal, Irvin del Río Castro, Yosvany Pérez Torres, Diosdani Castillo Vergel, Vicyohandri Odelín Saname, Ismel Jiménez Santiago y Norge Luis Ruiz Loyola.

Reinforcements (6): Alfredo Despaigne Rodríguez (OF), Yulieski Gourriel Castillo (3B), José Miguel Fernández Díaz (2B), Vicyohandri Odelín Saname (RHP), Ismel Jiménez Santiago (RHP) and rookie talent Norge Luis Ruiz Loyola (RHP).

Manager: Ramón Moré Flaqué.

The website also reported what is, in my opinion, a political commissar appointment: Víctor Mesa Martínez, who was the Team Cuba manager in Durham, North Carolina in the summer of 2013. His performance was extremely poor, losing all five games against the USA National Collegiate Team.

The question is: who will be the real manager?  Ramón Moré Flaqué, who is the regular manager of Team Villa Clara or the political commissar, Victor Mesa?

If the commissar is calling the shots during the games, Cuba will lose 2014 Caribbean Series.

Buena Vista Social Club to Present a Goodbye Tour 2014-15

Excerpts in English, followed by the original article published in Granma.

The Buena Vista Social Club, the most important all star of Cuban music during recent times, will conduct an Adiós Tour throughout the world. It will start this coming June and it will end in October 2015.

The tour will start in France next June 15, and they will visit the USA in August and October of 2015. They will also visit Latin America and the Old Continent.

¡No insultes nuestra inteligencia!

Preparations
Rebel Army Captain Rogelio Acevedo recalls:
Che sometimes did things or ordered us to do something whose immediate sense we did not comprehend, and which was a product of his great intuition as a combatant. So it was such as, when he ordered us to tear up and remove the railway line with a bulldozer.
On the night of December 28, [1958], Che had ordered us to a find vulnerable point where the armored train traveled, and to choose a place where the rail line could  be lifted up.
At dawn, the rebels utilized a D6 yellow caterpillar which belonged to the Agronomy Department of the University of Santa Clara. They lifted a stretch of the rail line which was located about four kilometers from where the armored train was, which impeded the train to go backwards to the installations of the Leoncio Vidal barracks. [Forward from the train was all territorio libre (liberated territory) of Las Villas province.]
Following his habitual tactics, Che isolated the armored train and its position at the Loma de (Mount of) Capiro, where part of the train soldiers had been deployed, and later on he ordered the infiltration towards the city of Santa Clara to continue.
The Derailment

December 29, 1958.
Around three in the afternoon the armored train begins to move backwards in order not to face the intense fire from the rebels. The two locomotives move the train extremely fast. They travel about four kilometers backwards without knowing the the rails had been lifted (20 meters) in the zone known as La Linea (The Line).

Núñez Jiménez relates:
When they reach that point, the armored train thunderously jumps and abandons the rails, and a few of the wagons and the potent locomotive spectacularly hit a garage, which is destroyed, and also numerous automobiles which were parked inside. All are converted into flattened scrap metal.

The noise was so awful, that all of us who were very close, thought that the world had ended. To the violent hit of the principal impact followed a screech, shortened by more wagons hitting each other.
The spectacle was impressive. Some wagons were destroyed, others overturned, others had left the rails, “a sea of iron confused.”
------
JG: This act was a masterful stroke of guerrilla warfare strategy by the Comandante with the biggest cojones in the Cuban Revolution. The huge number of armaments and war material captured inside the many wagons of the Armored Train is described closely in Tabio's book. All the civilians that had joined the Rebel Army in Las Villas province were now fighting with thee arms that were provided  courtesy of General Fulgencio Batista. Two days later Santa Clara, Cuba's third largest city, would fall to the to the spectacularly brilliant effort of the 26th of July Movement, the March 13 Student Directorate and the Socialist Popular Party.
On January First, 1959, General Fulgencio Batista, USA's favorite puppet in Latin America, would flee the country with his tail between his legs. He and his esbirros, before they left,  looted the Cuban Treasury and the money was deposited in Florida Banks. It was never returned to the Cuban people by the Yankee imperialists of Dwight D. Eisenhower, who turned out to be a bigger crook than Richard Nixon.
I highly recommend Tabio's book to those who can read Spanish.  What a great writer he is. There is no single unimportant word about the greatest military feat of the Man from Argentina. The bibliography and the notes are extensive.
The Yankee imperialists hated Che. They immediately sent orders for his execution when he was captured in Bolivia.
Che was, without a doubt, the greatest Revolutionary that ever lived in the 20th century.

The Armored Train

Here is more historical information about the armored train of General Fulgencio Batista, which was not able to save his dictatorship during December 28-31, 1958, the concluding chapter of the Cuban Revolution.

From the Spanish version as related in:

“La Batalla del Che”

English translation by Cuba Journal.

Batista had an advantage [in men under his command] of 10-1, and that is without counting the famous “armored train.” Comandante Ernesto 'Che' Guevara had 300 rebel army men under his leadership, plus the men from the [March 13] Student Directorate [see note].

Che managed abundant information about the armored train that started being assembled at La Ciénaga (the Swamp) in Havana, and which constituted the “definitive card” of the dictatorship to stop the revolution in Las Villas province.

The train had available two locomotives and 19 wagons, missile launchers, mortars, 14 machine guns of caliber 30, abundant ammunition for the automatic rifles of 400 soldiers which traveled inside the train, food, uniforms and war material engineering.

The train started being assembled in September of 1958 and one month later it was almost finished. It was under the command of colonel F.E. Rosell, chief of the Corps of Engineers.

The cells of the PSP [Partido Socialista Popular] and the 26th of July Movement had transmitted regularly to the Sierra Maestra all the information about the train. The information had then been communicated to Che Guevara. But they did not limit themselves to just inform. About the train and its occupants, a permanent campaign of demoralization and political work had been produced, which provoked the desertion of 200 soldiers (reducing from 700 to 400 those who would finally leave [Havana] inside the train.) The workers at the Swamp also engaged in a multitude of minor sabotages  which delayed the start of the voyage to the combat zone.

Note: the March 13 Student Directorate was named after University of Havana students, who on March 13, 1957, courageously assaulted, in Havana, the presidential palace of dictator Batista.

Fidel told them: go and [F word] yourself!

The rest is history.

The yankee imperialists of Obama & Kerry are trying to do to South Sudan what they tried to do to Cuba in 1959: we will cut your foreign aid

BOGO Wars

American capitalist ruling elites are so desperate about accumulating even more income inequality at the highest levels of our economy that they are expanding their BOGO charades (buy one, get one free) to new and unexpected levels.

A  few weeks ago I was watching one of the garbage TV programs that they are giving us on a daily basis, when a car dealer in new automobiles in Naples, Florida, debuted their new BOGO commercial, buy one new car and get the second one free, (manufactured probably in Bangladesh, where there are no safety regulations in manufacturing.) Raul Castro should explore this new opportunity in selling new cars to the Cuban population, now that he has decided to go 100% capitalist.

But wait, If you call my 800 free telephone number right now, you get even more for the same price!

Barack Obama and John Kerry are taking this “revolutionary” BOGO idea to new and unprecedented levels.

We all know that they both have been itching to start new foreign wars to try to counteract the downward economic spiral of American capitalism, since they are running out of shit to sell to the American people.

War # 1 will be started as a joint effort with the Zionist Jews of Israel and it will be against Iran.

This week, John Kerry came up with the idea of expanding BOGO in foreign wars to Korea.

He declared that God has appointed the U.S. as the Savior of our planet and we will give you a BOGO war against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The imperialists claim that Kim Jong Un has been planning (in the half-time period of his basketball games) to launch an attack against U.S. puppet, South Korea.

An open question for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders

Full disclosure: I am an admirer of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. Why? Because he consistently defends the interests of the working class.

I know what he said about the Cuba embargo on Feb 20, 2008.

Here it is:

Reacting to the resignation of the aging and ailing Fidel Castro, Vermont's congressional delegation said the United States should reconsider its failed policy of isolating Cuba, according to The Associated Press. "With or without Castro, the United States should move toward normalized relations with Cuba," Senator Bernie Sanders said. "American businesses are losing billions of dollars and Canadians and Europeans are winning business as a result of our economic embargo. I hope the Cuban people will use this transfer of power to move toward a more democratic society. In the process, I hope the United States will respect the independence of the Cuban people."

Source:

Castro Exits (http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/castro-exits)

That was almost six years ago.

My question is, since Senator Sanders consistently votes with the Democratic Party and caucus with them, how does he feels about Barack Obama and his five years of failed Cuba policies?

John Kerry continues his bullying against the DPRK

"We will not not accept North Korea as a nuclear state" said the US Secretary of State, as he met with his puppet foreign minister in South Korea.

And what are you going to do Mr. Bully, invade the DPRK?

Tell your boss to take care instead the many problems that the country faces here at home.

Tell your boss to stop looking to start a new war. The American people will not support you, as was the case in Syria.

Very poor analysis by ABC about one U.S. House Representative

A couple of days ago ABC published a not so good article about U.S. Representative Joe Garcia, a Democrat.

Joe Garcia continues to support the Cuba embargo. He is no improvement over the Republican he defeated. On top of that, he is still associated with the infamous Cuban-American National Foundation, a creation of U.S. government under Ronald Reagan, which the Cuban government calls a terrorist organization.

I would not give Joe Garcia a wooden nickel.

Sunday, January 05, 2014

Has the Cuban government gone totally insane?

Where are Cubans going to get $40,000 to buy a Toyota Corolla when they only make $20.00 a month?

Is the Cuban government going to rely on sales to Miami's cocaine cowboys when they visit Havana?

I have read dozens of articles in the Internet with Cuban's on the street grumbling that the sale prices of automobiles, which are tightly controlled by the government, are an insult to the people's intelligence. The average Cuban does not have $40,000 U.S. dollars or even 40,000 Cuban pesos in their bank accounts.

In this case, Raul Castro's government is totally divorced from reality. El Bizneo should not be part of Cuban socialism.

Spanish 101 for POTUS #44

Adquiere Un Par De Cojones  (get a pair of balls)

When Abraham Lincoln finally realized that slavery and the civil war were destroying the young nation, he issued and signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

He did not go to a city in the South to give a political speech to the slave owners! Those guys were part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Honest Abe had a pair of big COJONES! And he paid the ultimate price: his life.

Barack Obama, POTUS #44, does not have what it takes to tackle the one problem that he doesn't want to deal with and continues to ignore: the Cuba embargo, which has been repudiated and condemned by an overwhelming majority of nations, 188 out of the 193 of our planet, to be exact.

He does not need to go to Miami, a city dominated by the former supporters of General Fulgencio Batista.  Even dead people vote in that cesspool of a city.

One extremely stupid and hate-filled Cuban radio commentator in that place went as far as to advocate than when the americanos brought back “democracy” to the island an order would be issued to hunt and kill every communist that lives in the Caribbean island.

If Barack Obama wanted to eliminate the Cuba embargo he would have to start by sitting down at his desk and signing a message to our national legislature titled Presidential request to the U.S. Congress to lift the embargo imposed by the United States of America on the Republic of Cuba.

But, you see my friends, Barack Obama neither has the courage nor the cojones that are necessary to issue such a written message. That would be doing the right thing!

Now he must be beginning to realize that the administration of Democratic Party gangster from Chicago, Barack Obama, is not worthy of trust. He is not interested in friendly relations with Cuba, he is only interested in total domination and conquest. Poor, poor, United States during 2014-2016.
