Tampa city council to consider asking that future U.S.-Cuba diplomatic accord be signed here
TAMPA — The City Council today will discuss volunteering Tampa to be the place where history is made.
The idea is that sooner or later Cuba and the United States will sign a treaty or other document normalizing diplomatic relations after decades of Cold War hostility.
The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce thinks that document should be signed here — ideally at a spot like Ybor City's Cuban Club or Jose Marti Park, which, officially, has remained Cuban soil since its donation to the Republic of Cuba nearly 60 years ago.
