SOLIDARITY: Cuba Journal is extremely proud to support the great work of IFCO Pators for Peace
Published on Aug 24, 2016
After 7 years of harassment and intimidation at the hands of the Internal Revenue Service, the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) has been informed it will be stripped of its tax exempt status for its humanitarian work in Cuba.
The IRS’s audit of IFCO, one of the nation's oldest civil rights organizations, began in 2009 in response to the organization's fiscal sponsorship of shipments of humanitarian aid to Cuba and Palestine. In particular the IRS claimed that our work to bring humanitarian aid and build friendship with the Cuban people was done in violation of the Treasury Department’s “Trading with the Enemy Act”.
This "questionable and untimely" decision comes as the Obama administration has been moving positively to normalize relations with Cuba since December 17, 2014.
