Green Party wins place on future Missouri ballots

10 November 2016

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Although its candidates lost, the Green Party scored a victory in Missouri's elections.

Green Party lieutenant governor candidate Jennifer Leach got 2.4 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election. That's enough to earn the party an automatic ballot spot in future Missouri elections.

The Green Party had to gather petition signatures to get its candidate on this year's ballot. State law says any party that gets at least 2 percent of the vote for one of its statewide candidates is considered an "established political party" for future elections.
