Victory Lines Gets Cuba’s Nod to Start Cruises

20-06-207

Victory Cruise Lines president and CEO Bruce Nierenberg said the small-ship operator has obtained authority from the Cuban government to cruise to Cuba.

Nierenberg said that he is in Havana to negotiate port specifics. Miami-based Victory has a single 202-passenger coastal cruiser that previously sailed for the defunct Haimark Line as the St. Laurent. It is well suited for cruises around the island to smaller ports such as Cienfuegos, Trinidad, and Santiago de Cuba, Victory has said.

It is sad but it must be done

Cuba has the misfortune of being located 90 miles from the most powerful and evil empire ever created by Homo Sapient.

That is the reason that you see many structures or buildings like the one at the end of this post.

Therefore, Cuba has to spend much of its money resources on:

1) the military to prevent and defeat things like the 1961 Bay of Pigs adventure, initiated by the Yankees from the north.

2) protect the island from threats from within, which have always been financed and directed by the Yankees from north.

I applaud the Ministry of the Interior and the CDR's for the great job that they do.

You have to do whatever it is necessary to make sure that the island is governed by Cubans, and not the Yankees from the north.

One day, maybe the USA will not ruled by insane and money hungry leaders.

Cuba calls Trump speech on island 'grotesque spectacle'

Mon Jun 19, 2017 | 12:14pm EDT

RT - Reuters

By Francois Murphy |

VIENNA U.S. President Donald Trump's speech on Cuba was a "grotesque spectacle," but the island's government will continue working towards better relations with the majority of Americans who back detente, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Monday.

Trump announced a partial rollback of the normalization of relations with Cuba on Friday in Miami, the heartland of Cuban exiles, in a theater named after the leader of the failed U.S.-backed Bay of Pigs invasion of the island in 1961.

"It was a grotesque spectacle straight from the Cold War," Rodriguez said in Vienna, during a tour of European countries, in a news conference broadcast live in Cuba.

Trump's speech before an audience that included people Cuba considers terrorists, included dramatic flourishes like a Cuban- American exile playing the U.S. national anthem on his violin.

The U.S. president stopped short of breaking diplomatic relations with Cuba, restored in 2015 after more than five decades of hostility and leaves many recent agreements between the two countries intact.

However, it will tighten restrictions on Americans traveling to the Caribbean island, hurting the booming Cuban tourism industry and clamp down on U.S. business dealings with Cuba's military.

"It is necessary to wait for the U.S. government to announce regulations that implement these measures before opining on their reach and depth," Rodriguez said.

Cuba Foreign Minister: We will not return US fugitives to the United States

Cuba is rejecting the demands by US President Donald Trump, including the extradition of those US fugitives it regards as fighters for civil rights. The island nation will never negotiate its independence and sovereignty, the Cuban foreign minister said.
The new measures announced by Trump on Friday will only “strengthen our patriotism, our dignity, and our determination to defend by all means our national independence,” Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said at a press conference in Vienna, after meeting with his Austrian colleague.

Bernie Sanders encourages Senate Democrats to block GOP health care bill ‘in any way that we can’

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Feel the block!

Sen. Bernie Sanders on Sunday urged Democrats in the Senate to do anything necessary — possibly including shutting down day-to-day business — to thwart the GOP’s secretive work on its health care bill.

“I believe Democrats should do everything they can to oppose that legislation in any way that we can,” the Vermont independent told CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”

On that show and CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sanders did nothing to downplay questions about the Democrats’ reported plans to halt all congressional work to oppose the Republican bill.

Donald Trump is now so preoccupied with the possible obstruction of justice investigation by special counsel Mueller against him, that he relied on Marco Rubio and Mario Diaz-Balart for a desperate "Come And Save Me Plan."

Marco Rubio couldn't even convince the people of his state to vote for him in the 2016 GOP Presidential Primary. He is a loser and a tired recycled politician.

"Banning tourist travel to the island, restating the importance of the 56-year-old trade embargo with the island and instituting a broad prohibition on financial transactions with companies significantly controlled by the Communist government’s military, according to a draft version of the directive obtained by POLITICO."

Manuel Artime was not a theater. He was a CIA paid mercenary.

Immediately after the CIA landed him and his buddies at the Bay of Pigs they were slapped on the face repeatedly by the Cuban people. After 66 hours they ran and surrendered.

The expectation about Trump's Cuba announcement tomorrow?

Trump is expected to use tough rhetoric against the Cuban government in calling for tightening rules for U.S. travel to the country. He is also expected to call for blocking commerce with entities that benefit the Cuban military. (Washington Examiner)

JG: The guy is a nut. Anything can happen tomorrow. How will Cuba respond? Anytime Trump opens his mouth he proposes things that are bad for Americans in general, so expect the worst. When dealing with a hyper-capitalist like Trump, the first question that you should ask him is: "How are you going to fuck me?"

Texas Republican U.S. Representative: It’s time to move forward after nearly six decades of failed policy with Cuba.

Excerpt:

In 2014, the U.S. began to peel away failed policies with Cuba that never achieved their objective. This administration should build on the initial successes in order to help American companies access emerging Cuban markets, support a trade relationship that benefits American workers and strengthen issues of national security with a more cooperative and willing party 90 miles off of our shores.

The Letter: Klobuchar Leads Group of 14 Senators to Urge the State Department to Maintain Economic and Political Engagement with Cuba

The full text of the senators’ letter is below:

Dear Secretary Tillerson,

As the sponsors of the Freedom to Export to Cuba Act, we write to urge the Administration to maintain economic and political engagement with Cuba.

Upholding normalized relations with Cuba provides key economic and national security benefits to the United States. We have already started to see the benefits of a new approach with Cuba. American travel and hotel companies are taking advantage of their ability to get licenses to work in Cuba. American airline companies are flying direct commercial routes between the U.S. and Cuba, and for the first time in decades an American cruise ship docked in Havana. In 2016, tourism to Cuba set a record, increasing by nearly 14 percent. In order for American businesses to benefit from this growth they have to be able to do business in Cuba.

Each year the United States exports approximately $300 million in agricultural commodities to Cuba. This represents just 16 percent of Cuba’s $1.9 billion in agricultural imports. Expanding these opportunities would allow American farmers to dramatically increase exports. Isolating Cuba again would not just block opportunities for American businesses, it would also allow competitors like China and Brazil to expand their operations.

In addition to helping American businesses and farmers, bilateral cooperation with Cuba is good for our national security. In April, more than a dozen retired military officers sent a letter to National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, urging the Administration to continue to expand U.S. – Cuba relations. These military leaders noted that “if we fail to engage economically and politically, it is certain that China, Russia, and other entities whose interests are contrary to the United States’ will rush into the vacuum. We have an opportunity now to shape and fill a strategic void.” Since reestablishing relations, the United States and Cuba have signed nine memoranda of understanding (MOUs) related to national security. These MOUs focus on important issues like air travel security, efforts to combat drug trafficking, and cross-border law enforcement. Abandoning these agreements is contrary to the best interests of the American people.

Economic and political engagement has also been good for the people of Cuba. More than 500,000 Cubans are running their own small businesses and thousands more are earning money from the growing travel industry. Last year, Google signed a deal with Cuba to improve digital infrastructure, and the Cuban government is slowly expanding Internet access to the Cuban people. It is undeniable that engagement is improving economic opportunities and the quality of life in Cuba. It is possible to expand commerce with Cuba while also holding the Castro regime accountable. For example, our bipartisan legislation calls for ending the economic embargo against Cuba while also maintaining sanctions against the Cuban government for human rights abuses and property rights violations.

A majority of the American people support engagement with Cuba. American business leaders and farmers deserve a fair shot to compete in a market just 90 miles from our shores. We urge you to build on the economic, political, and national security progress we have made thus far by expanding, not retracting, engagement with Cuba.

Sincerely,

###
