Santo Domingo, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Caribbean Baseball Confederation (CBC), Dominican Juan Francisco Puello, said that they remain hopeful to have a Cuban team at the 56th Caribbean Baseball Series. "Cuba joined the founders of the tournament and won the first edition in 1949, it is a member of the house," the CBC president told Prensa Latina news agency.

Before referring to the reasons hindering Cuba's long-awaited return to the Caribbean Baseball Leagues, Puello stressed that Cuba is well-known for its baseball tradition and quality, for its strikes, and home-runs.

Since the foundation until 1960, Cuban baseball teams took part in 12 championships and won seven of them, recalled Puello.

Cuba's participation in the event was interrupted from 1961 to 1969; Cuban baseball teams did not return to the competition due to the abolition of the professional sports in Cuba.

Why is the Obama administration continuing to give economic and miltary aid to a government that came to power via a miltary coup d'etat?

Batista in Cuba and Pinochet in Chile came to power via a military coup and American capitalism continued supporting them.

You can't be in favor of democracy and supporting a military coup d'etat in Egypt at the same time.

You can't fool all of the people all of the time, President Obama!

Cuban Slugger Brings Promise and Risk to the Plate

Jose Dariel Abreu

During this year’s World Baseball Classic, Cuba’s Jose Dariel Abreu hit a grand slam against China that was positively jaw-dropping. Abreu, a powerfully built right-handed hitter, loaded up on his back leg, waited on a curveball and hit a towering drive halfway up the outfield stands. Thirty major league front offices were surely paying attention.

The U.S. Ordered to Reveal Payment to Reporters in the Case of The Cuban Five

2013.09.18 - 08:58:29 /

HAVANA, Cuba.-  A U.S. Federal Court ordered the State Department to hand over materials on the payment to journalists that acted to the detriment of the five Cuban anti-terrorists incarcerated in that country since 1998.

This is the result of a legal demand by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF), which demands evidence of these secret payments of the White House to reporters of the city of Miami during the trial against The Five, the Prensa Latina news agency reported

Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, lawyer and executive director of the PCJF, asserted that this is an important step, since these are archives that the State Department refused to circulate, since they include crucial information for the case of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramón Labañino and Rene Gonzalez.

On June 5, lawyers of that Fund brought a lawsuit, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), against the State Department, because the governmental entity refused to reveal the requested materials.

Now the office has received a court order to hand over the documents in its possession, starting from October.

In October, 2010, the FOIA request, presented on behalf of the U.S. newspaper Liberacion, requested the documents on payments to journalists from 1998 to 2002.

(Reuters) - The United States and Cuba concluded on Monday their second round of talks aimed at re-establishing direct mail service between the two countries after a 50-year ban, but left for later the most sensitive issue - Cuban planes landing on U.S. soil.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry said both sides had agreed to continue the talks in the near future and that it had emphasized, "working out the transportation of mail by regular direct routes in both directions," was key to their successful conclusion.

SIERRA VISTA, ARIZ. – Sierra Vista school administrators yanked a book from classes this week following parental complaints of sexually graphic material.

The novel "Dreaming in Cuban," a National Book Award finalist, has never generated this sort of controversy before, said author Cristina Garcia.

Also, the American Library Association, which tracks books prohibited in schools, says it has no record of "Dreaming in Cuban" being banned.

Cuba's Capitolio building to become the new site of the National Assembly of People's Power

Havana's Capitolio

It took three months just to get the scaffolding up, but Cuba's biggest restoration project to date is finally under way.

The vast Capitolio, one of the most iconic buildings in Havana, is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

Once seen as a symbol of bourgeois excess, it will become home to Cuba's Communist parliament.

The announcement that the National Assembly would move there was made by President Raul Castro earlier this year, apparently taking even the restoration team by surprise.

A 9/11 that the US government doesn't talk about

1973 Chile Junta

On September 1973 the USA demonstrated to the world that talk about "democracy" is just empty and worthless yada, yada, yada, when it comes from Washington, D.C.

The CIA, Richard Nixon, and his Jew boy, Henry Kissinger, financed and directed a military coup against the democratically elected Salvador Allende in Chile.

The imperialists LOVE military coups! It is easier to enslave and exploit the people afterwards.

New MLB regulations will make Cuban baseball players easy prey

Fable of the capitalist shark and the sardine

Universo Beisbol is a blog that I frequent often. It is a good website about Cuban baseball.

Today, they have published a new post about the new regulations that are being implemented by Major League Baseball (MLB).

In their opinion, and I tend to agree with them, the so-called Cuban baseball defectors will become very easy prey for the money-hungry capitalist sharks.

These new Cuban baseball players that I call '$$$$ chasers' will have to wait an additional six months to sign a "contract" with an MLB club.

When the capitalist sharks smell millions of dollars, they begin going in circles around their prospective prey.

The real good Cuban baseball players remain in the island.

John Lennon: Give Peace a Chance

Total hysteria at the highest levels of the United States government

The declarations by president Barack Obama yesterday that he does not need the approval of the U.S. Congress to start a new military conflict, this time against Syria, are very ominous and dangerous.

Apparently Barack Obama has not read very much about civil wars in the history of mankind. Did he not learn in school about the U.S. civil war in the 1860's or the Spanish civil war in the 1930's?

The sickening spectacle of John Kerry foaming at the mouth yesterday in the U.S. Senate's Foreign Relations Committee is enough to make you vomit.

Does Obama and Kerry believe that they are Gods and the constitution of the United States is just merely a piece of paper?

Who has appointed Barack Obama and John Kerry as policemen of the world? Themselves, or the multinational capitalist corporations who will profit handsomely from a new military conflict?

The U.S. Congress, like the United Kingdom's House of Commons should reject, the actions of these two madmen.

As airplane for beaming TV to Cuba sits, we still pay for it

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — At an airfield in rural Georgia, the U.S. government pays a contractor $6,600 a month for a plane that doesn't fly.

The plane is a 1960s turboprop with an odd array of antennas on its back end and the name of a Cuban national hero painted on its tail. It can fly, but it doesn't. Government orders.

“The contract now is a ‘non-fly’  ” agreement, said Steve Christopher of Phoenix Air Group, standing next to the plane. “That’s what the customer wants.”

The airplane is called “Aero Marti,” and it is stuck in a kind of federal limbo. After two years of haphazard spending cuts in Washington, it has too little funding to function but too much to die.

The plane was outfitted to fly over the ocean and broadcast an American-run TV station into Cuba. The effort was part of the long-running U.S. campaign to combat communism in Cuba by providing information to the Cuban people uncensored by their communist government.

But Cuban officials jammed the signal almost immediately, and surveys showed that less than 1 percent of Cubans watched. Still, when Congress started making budget cuts, lawmakers refused to kill the plane. (The Columbus Dispatch)

Sign the petition of US Congressman Allan Grayson: Tell Congress Don't Attack Syria

Petition: "The Administration is considering intervening in the Syrian civil war. We oppose this. There's no vital national security involved. We are not the world’s policeman, nor its judge and jury. Our own needs in America are great, and they come first. The death of civilians is always regrettable, and civil war is regrettable, but no Americans have been attacked, and no American allies have been attacked. The British Parliament understandably has voted not to join in any attack. Notably, defense contractor Raytheon's stock is up 20% in the last 60 days. It seems that nobody wants US intervention in Syria except the military-industrial complex. I oppose US military intervention in Syria. Join me."
