ORLANDO, Fla. —
Isaias has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but it is expected to gain strength as it heads toward the Florida coast.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, Isaias was about 115 miles southeast of Fort Lauderdale and was moving northwest at 12 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm has sustained winds of 70 mph as it emerges over the Straits of Florida.
The storm is expected to move near the east coast of the Florida peninsula Saturday evening through Sunday, the NHC said
.
Forecasters expect the storm to once again reach hurricane status.
